One of my favorite comic series of all time is Brian K. Vaughan’s run on Marvel’s Runaways.

Debuting in 2003, Runaways featured an original team of teenagers who team up and decide to become heroes of their own, when they discover during one fateful night that their parents make up the criminal syndicate known as “The Pride".

Vaughan’s version ran for two series (which you can pick up in collected form at Amazon, which I highly recommend you do - Vol. 1, Vol. 2), and then had a series of revivals…which, while featuring big name talent like Joss Whedon (post-Buffy, pre-Avengers) and Terry Moore, never really hit the same vibes as Vaughan’s pitch-perfect run.

Never the less, the comic was always rumored to be a potential movie property for Marvel, and thankfully, it will be coming to life.

Instead of being the next big Marvel blockbuster, this will be actually be going to TV, as the first production between Marvel and Hulu.

That’s right, they’re working both sides of the streaming world now!

Deadline.com got the announcement. Here’s the most important bit:

EXCLUSIVE: Hulu is getting into the Marvel business with a series order to Runaways, a drama series based on the fan-favorite Marvel Comics books. It comes from Gossip Girl creators Josh Schwartz & Stephanie Savage, Marvel Television and ABC Signature.

That’s right, the creators of Gossip Girl will be running away with Runaways, appropriate given the teen-based nature of the show.

Now, I’m hoping that the series will be more like the Vaughan run, and less like those that followed, and as a TV show, strike a vibe between the Marvel Netflix shows, and Hulu’s own British acquisition, Misfits.

Runaways will hit Hulu sometime in the indeterminate future.
