During yesterday’s Legendary Pictures panel, fans were delighted by a video package announcing that, due to the success of this summer’s American Godzilla reboot (which we loved), Godzilla 2 is officially in production.

The best parts of the announcement?

Gareth Edwards (Monsters) will return as director, after helming the 2016 Star Wars extended universe film he is currently working on - and, perhaps more importantly, Godzilla 2 will bring more classic Kaiju to the series, as Mothra, Ghidorah and Rodan were teased.

No release date is set for Godzilla 2 at this time, but I’d guess something in the 2018 timeframe.
