One of the movies I’m most looking forward to this spring is Oblivion, the Tom Cruise starring sci-fi actioner directed by Joseph Kosinski (Tron Legacy).

While the plot looks somewhat derivative from the trailers shown so far, Kosinski has shown a flair for visual style, and more importantly, an amazing taste in musical collaborators. Tron featured Daft Punk, and with Oblivion, we’re seeing the first score from French shoegaze electronica masters M83.

M83 has been producing fantastic music for a number of years now, but 2011’s Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming was an absolute masterwork - and I cannot wait to hear how they score a full film. (Honestly, you can stream it already here, but I feel like context will be key)

Also excited about this prospect? Mondo! Our dear friends in poster creation, they’ve lately taken their hobby of producing vinyl albums and made it a full on extension of their already successful print making business, with last month’s Drive release selling out in record time. Appropriately, their next release will be a vinyl of M83’s score, and we’re proud to feature a look at the art for it, by Kilian Eng.

The cover is at the top of the post, but what’s really eye catching is inside of the sleeve, a full landscape piece with some stunning color work.

You can expect the 2xLP vinyl to hit MondoTees.com on April 26th, with a full record store release following on May 28th.
