Over this weekend, news broke that Turner’s Adult Swim network would be producing an adaptation of Junji Ito’s horror manga, Uzumaki.

Sadly, I don’t think I can recreate the conditions for you which I first saw the trailer…

  • It was about 3:30am, I had just woke up wide awake Friday-into-Saturday for no discernible reason.
  • The room was dark.
  • Night was slowly turning into dawn.

With the hypnotic, surreal soundtrack, provided by Colin Stetson - best known for doing the score of Hereditary - and the stuttering, strange animation (probably an animatic / motion comic for the purposes of sharing that the show is in production), this teaser essentially imprinted itself on my soul.

Folks at Adult Swim, I don’t know if you’re listening, but if you can find a way where this show airs exclusively at, I dunno, 2am…this will be the perfect hour for this show to melt brains and scar generations for ages to come.
