Well, this is a bummer.

No sooner than Warner Bros gives Godzilla 2 a new release date, which I assumed at the time was to give its director a rest after finishing Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, they’re looking for a new director.

That’s right - Gareth Edwards has left the project, looking to work on a smaller film, after the stress of two back-to-back blockbusters.

It’s a shame, as I thought Edwards brought an incredible sense of scale and realism to the project (as found in his film Monsters), but I’m still excited to see what he is working on solo.

Godzilla 2, no matter who directs it, is scheduled for a March 22, 2019 release.
