Looking over the list of movies set for this Summer, 2012 is a VERY stacked year, with big movies such as The Avengers, The Dark Knight Rises, Brave, Amazing Spider-Man and many other set to hit your local cinema.

But 30 years ago, the Summer of 1982, might be the greatest summer ever - at least that’s what the folks at the Alamo Drafthouse believe, as they are putting together a great film series this summer - Summer of ‘82.

The main series of films to be shown are these 8 key titles, each screening sponsored by a major movie website (it’d be cool to see Blast-O-Rama.com host a screening one day…but I digress):

May 11 — CONAN THE BARBARIAN (co-hosted by HitFix, tickets on sale April 17) May 18 — THE ROAD WARRIOR (co-hosted by Film School Rejects, tickets on sale May 4) May 25 — ROCKY III (co-hosted by Collider, tickets on sale May 11) June 1 — POLTERGEIST (co-hosted by Aint It Cool News, tickets on sale May 18) June 3 — STAR TREK II: THE WRATH OF KHAN (co-hosted by Badass Digest, tickets on sale May 18 ) June 8 — E.T. (co-hosted by Slashfilm, tickets on sale May 25) June 22 — THE THING (co-hosted by Movies.com, tickets on sale June 8) July 6 — TRON (co-hosted by FirstShowing.net, tickets on sale June 22)

And if that wasn’t enough, due to the great response, even MORE screenings of great 1982 films were added, so you’ll be able to see these, as well!

May 9 — VICE SQUAD June 6 — ESCAPE 2000 June 20 — THE SWORD AND THE SORCERER July 1 — THE SECRET OF NIMH July 9 — PINK FLOYD: THE WALL July 10 — CLASS OF 1984 July 13 — FRIDAY THE 13TH: PART 3 IN 3D July 17 — HALLOWEEN 3 July 24 — Q: THE WINGED SERPENT July 28 — THE DARK CRYSTAL August 12 — FAST TIMES AT RIDGEMONT HIGH August 25 — THE LAST UNICORN

Full details on the screenings will be available here: http://drafthouse.com/1982

Of course, since this is an Alamo project, we’ll be getting posters, and the first poster (and it’s variant) has been revealed - ET: The Extra Terrestrial, as drawn by Dan McCarthy.  These are beautiful.

No word on what other films will see posters, but you gotta believe at least a few will.  I’ll be sure to cover them as I see them. If they’re all as nice as this one, you can bet that they will become objects of Geek Lust as time goes on.
