As an unabashed fan of Pixar films, I’ve been a bit worried about the inundation of sequels coming from the studio.

Sure, Toy Story 2 & 3 were amazing, and Cars 2 looks like it might actually be great, but what was left unsaid by the first Monsters Inc. to justify Monsters Inc. 2?

Turns out it wasn’t what was left unsaid, but instead, what was said before - as Monsters Inc. 2 is going to be a prequel.

Taken straight from a theater catalog, here is the current synopsis for the forthcoming prequel:

[Monsters Inc. 2] will take us back to before a time when Mike Wazowski was top comedian, before James P. Sullivan was top scarer, even before the buddies joined the MI workforce. In fact, it takes us all the way back to school - the University of Fear to be precise. Although the two start out as frenemies, Monsters, Inc. 2 will weave the tale of how the dynamic duo transition from rivals to BFF.
Sure, the uses of terms "frenemies" and "BFF" give me all kinds of douchechills, but this sounds like a really fun premise.  Revenge of the Monster Nerds? I am there!

Monsters Inc. 2 is set to hit theaters November 16, 2012.
