As a child, the first deaths I really remember effecting me were not that of a family member or friend, as those came later. Instead, it was the deaths of Jim Henson and Freddie Mercury that really made me understand loss.

In the case of Mercury, growing up with my parents influence of listening to Queen, seeing the spectacle of his memorial concert made me realize the impact one could have in passing.  With Henson, having grown up watching Sesame Street and The Muppet Show, it was as if an entire part of my life had been shut off.  Suffice to say, as a kid, it really sorta blew my mind.

So, yesterday, the 18th anniversary of Mercury’s death, a video was released onto YouTube which was absolutely transcendent.

One of the first videos appearing as a part of The Muppets new YouTube channel, possibly giving the internet generation their first taste of the classic characters, mixes “Bohemian Rhapsody” and the Muppets.  And I think you can understand why I got goosebumps.

Click play, and enjoy.
