Things I love:

  • The Comics of Robert Kirkman, writer of The Walking Dead and Invincible.

  • The cable network AMC, home to Mad Men and an unusually large number of airings of Commando.

  • The films of Frank Darabont, including The Shawshank Redemption, The Green Mile and The Mist.

So I’m guessing I had some saved up nerd-karma somewhere, as it was just announced today that Frank Darabont is currently developing a TV adaptation of The Walking Dead to air on AMC!

If you’re not familiar with The Walking Dead, it’s an ongoing comic series depicting a realistic view of how the world would react in a zombie apocalypse.  Headed by the main character Rick,  a police officer from Kentucky, you see how he, his family and other survivors band together and attempt to survive.

As someone who is more than a little familiar with the world of zombies, The Walking Dead is one of the best examples of how to create a believable world from the well-worn concept of zombies, and to know that it will get the ability to play out as a television series as opposed to a one-shot film is extremely exciting, as half the fun of the series is in the journey.

Simply put, this is one of the most exciting television projects in years, and you better believe I will be watching every development.  Well done, gang.
