Double The Spidey, Double The Fun?

So it’s been a year since Spider-Man 3 hit theaters, and I recently revisited it on DVD.

Don’t get me wrong, it’s far from a good movie, but it has a lot of cool concepts that if given more time, or different situations, would’ve made a solid third entry in the Spider-Man franchise. I mean, I loved Bryce Dallas Howard as Gwen Stacy….having Topher Grace play a bizarro version of Peter as Eddie Brock was an inspired decision (even if his Venom left you wanting more)…the Sandman effects were mindblowing…and come on, tell me you didn’t love James Franco chewing up scenery as Harry Osborn/The New Goblin.

Of course, there were rumors then about Sony wanting a 4th Spider-Man, and I’d imagine considering this summer is somewhat of a comic movie renaissance, Sony will be pushing even harder to get the next arachnid adventure onto the big screen.

Now comes this latest bit of news from Cinematical.

Sayeth them:

Apparently, in the last few weeks, James Vanderbilt (Zodiac) has turned in a working draft of Spider-Man 4 to the studio. However, according to our source, “his story arc has encompassed two films, making Spider-Man 5 shootable at the same time. The studio saw dollar signs and is in the process of reworking his deal to snatch up the story arc.”

Very interesting move, especially considering Zodiac was effing fantastic.

Here’s an idea Sony…let’s get some new blood in the flick. Tobey and Kirsten seem bored with playing Peter and MJ, and I don’t think Raimi wants to helm this one. Why not a solid action director with nerd cred (I’d say Edgar Wright, but he’s a bit tied up…), new faces in the main roles, and what the hell, let’s bring back Bryce Howard as Gwen Stacy. Could make for the shot in the arm for the Spidey franchise. Maybe I’m being a bit of an apologist, I mean, Spider-Man’s my favorite fictional character of all time.  Despite this…it worked for Bond…I think it can work for everyone’s favorite wallcrawler.

Best Video Game EVER?

….because sometimes, there are no words….

From the game designers to the graphic design team, give everyone involved a raise. Wow.

Is THIS Ramona Flowers?

As you know, we (me?) here at Blast-O-Rama are very excited for the forthcoming adaptation of Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World by uber-geek director Edgar Wright.

And now it looks like we can confirm ANOTHER cast member. We knew earlier this year that Michael Cera would be wearing the messy hair and battling evil ex-boyfriends as Scott Pilgrim, but now it looks like Scott’s love interest has been cast.

Taking the role of the American delivery girl who has turned Scott’s canadian world upside down?

According to /film, it’s going to be….Mary Elizabeth Winstead. You may remember her as Lucy McClaine in Live Free or Die Hard, Lee the Cheerleader from Death Proof, or the villainess in Sky High. Me, I remember her as being cute as a button.

Looking good, Wright! Looking good!
