You know, I like Green Day, and even I feel that the Green Day: Rock Band game is a bit overkill. Sure, I may end up picking it up when it drops below say, $30, if just to import the songs into Rock Band 2, but the questionable edition of Rock Band’s demo is now responsible for something very very special.
Download the demo on XBox Live, play through it, and once you’ve completed your trial of the game, you see the above image.
That’s right - ROCK BAND 3 is gonna have PIANOS, sucka! I’d imagine we’ll see much more about this at next month’s E3 conference, but this already is enough to have me super excited.
My first hope for a piano based song? “Party Hard” by Andrew WK.
And sometimes (although more and more regularly these days) serve as co-host for Super Art Fight, a super rad live art competition.
This past weekend, we had the honor and pleasure of performing at MIT as a part of ROFLCon, and a really kind, really awesome audience member not only filmed the whole show, but put it online.
Here’s what you’ll see.
BOUT 1: Yuko Ota (Johnny Wander) defeated Super Art Fight Champion (and ROFLCon foursquare mayor) Jamie Baldwin (Sudden Valley).
Just announced over the past 24 hours, the super awesome super fantastic very rad live art competition Super Art Fight which I have the honor and pleasure of both MCing and handling the behind the scenes rangling for, will be making it’s Boston debut at the end of the month!
Where, you may ask? At the biggest gathering of all things internet, ROFLCon II at MIT! Our show is on Saturday, May 1, but the event itself runs both Friday April 30th and that Saturday.
This is a tremendous honor and pleasure, and we cannot wait to make a big splash at what is one of the biggest opportunities we’ve had to date.
If you’re in the Boston area, be sure to come out – it’s going to be a heck of a great time!
As the Superhero boom starts to meet its eventual end (after all, how many A-list heroes remain to have films made?), Hollywood needs to stay ahead of the trends, and figure out where the next source for quality event films is.
Of course, one would go “young, hungry screenwriters?!”, but you’d be wrong. The next source to be tapped dry? Japan!
Much how the comics world saw their fandom shift to anime and then manga (and then back to comics?), film is now looking toward Japan with some stunning looking projects, two of whom were announced over the weekend.
The one which is farthest ahead is an adaptation of the 70′s giant robot series Gaiking. The filmmakers who are behind it intend to use a mixture of CGI and practical effects to make the film happen, and they unleashed a teaser to the web, which appears below – it’s VERY cool, VERY exciting stuff.
If that wasn’t enough, we’re now going to see yet ANOTHER American attempt at adapting Godzilla, this time coming from Warner Brothers. The full press release is as follows:
Burbank, CA – March 29, 2010 – Legendary Pictures announced today that they will develop and produce a new film based on Toho Company’s famed GODZILLA character. Through the terms of the agreement, Legendary Pictures has acquired the rights to produce a movie inspired by Toho’s Godzilla, a franchise the Japanese company created and has nurtured for over fifty years.
Toho’s GODZILLA franchise boasts one of the most widely recognized film creatures worldwide, resulting in a series of books, television programs, video games and more than 25 films worldwide. Legendary intends to approach the film and its characters in the most authentic manner possible. The company will, in the near future, announce a filmmaker to helm the film for an intended 2012 release. The film will fall under the company’s co-production and co-financing deal with Warner Bros. Toho will distribute the film in Japan.
“Godzilla is one of the world’s most powerful pop culture icons, and we at Legendary are thrilled to be able to create a modern epic based on this long-loved Toho franchise,” said Thomas Tull, Chairman and CEO of Legendary. “Our plans are to produce the Godzilla that we, as fans, would want to see. We intend to do justice to those essential elements that have allowed this character to remain as pop-culturally relevant for as long as it has.”
“Godzilla is a signature Japanese character which we have nurtured over the years. It is a great honor to reach an agreement with Legendary Pictures, the parent to many a blockbuster film, and we are delighted in rebooting the character together to realize its much anticipated return by fans from all over the world,” comments Hideyuki Takai, President of Toho Co., Ltd. “We are anxious to find out where Godzilla’s new stomping will take us.”
“Godzilla is emblematic of the kind of branded, event films for which Warner Bros. and our partners at Legendary are best known. We have enjoyed a great deal of success together to date and this newest opportunity represents yet another chance for us to collaborate on a property that is very clearly in their wheelhouse,” said Jeff Robinov, President, Warner Bros. Pictures Group.
In addition to Legendary, producers on the new film will be Dan Lin, Roy Lee and Brian Rogers. Yoshimitsu Banno, Kenji Okuhira and Doug Davison will Executive Produce.
Personally, I don’t care the source, so long as the films are good, but again I ask aloud – where are the ORIGINAL ideas?
Let us hope these movies aren’t just a cash-in, and the money from these films go toward some original projects.
As I write this, I am currently healing after the discovery of not one, but two kidney stones. I am currently scheduled to meet with a urologist on Monday morning for discussion of my available treatment options.
As I’d figure you’ve gathered by now, this will reduce the amount of updates in the near future, although there are many stories I’d love to discuss.
The moment I can, I will return to blogging normally. Until then, thank you for your understanding.
As I’ve grown a bit of a home here at Blast-O-Rama, I’ve realized that I far too rarely discuss my other main project at this time, Super Art Fight.
To get the major shill out of the way first, our next show, appropriately titled “Super Art Fight 6″ is tomorrow night, January 23rd, at the Ottobar in downtown Baltimore. Doors are at 8, show starts at 9, and tickets are just $10.
And honestly, this is the most excited I’ve ever been for one of these shows. I’ve had the honor and pleasure to be a part of these events from their genesis almost 2 years ago, and to not just be a major part of what occurs behind the scenes, but also to be one half of the commentary/hosting team (along side my brother from another mother, Ross Nover), is possibly the most fulfilling project I’ve ever worked on.
What makes this show really special for me, however? It’s probably the best mix of talent and matchups we’ve ever had.
One of the many jobs I serve behind the scenes is that of the matchmaker for the cards. I’m the one who once we have a finalized list of talent, pairs talent together for the hopes of the best overall show. Sometimes we’ve had some pairings who clashed artistically, sometimes the winners a bit too obvious (someone wildly popular versus someone just getting their footing), but I think this card, is beyond the shadow of a doubt, one of the strongest we’ve ever had the pleasure to present.
And how do I know it’s going to be good? Honestly, for as much as I enjoy the excitement and stress of serving as one of our hosts, this card – more than any that came before it – I long to experience it as an audience member. I honestly cannot say for sure who will win any of them, and that, my friends, is exciting.
I’m not going to leave you with a hard sell. I’m just going to say this.
Tomorrow night, if you’re in the Baltimore area, and you are looking for something to do, head down to the Ottobar and check out Super Art Fight. We’re going to have some great artists on tap, probably the most interesting musical act we’ve ever booked in The Dirty Marmaduke Flute Squad, and no matter what happens during the show, I can pretty much guarantee that you’ll leave with a smile on your face.
Hard to believe, but this summer marked TWENTY YEARS since the release of Tim Burton’s Batman starring Michael Keaton as the Dark Knight.
As I was 5 then, the movie BLEW MY MIND, and ultimately probably made me who I am today. (Hear that, future ex-girlfriends, it’s Tim Burton’s fault!)
So, once I read that Toynami are making replicas of two of the most important “gadgets” from the film, Batman’s Cowl and trusty Grappling Hook.
These replicas are based on the Batman Returns cowl and hook, but they’re still awesome either way. No exact release date or price on these babies, but given that they’re limited to 500 pieces worldwide, I imagine it falls under the old rule of “if you have to ask, it’s too much.”
Either way, these are awesome. And leave my wallet crying.
