Love it or hate it, there is no denying the effect South Park has had (and continues to have) on pop culture.

Much like The Simpsons, it started as a controversial cartoon which has gone on to become a true tentpole in entertainment, providing years of laughter on the cutting edge.  Believe it or not, South Park is now 15 years old, and to celebrate it, an art show has been put together in New York City, running March 28th through April 10th.

The show can be seen at the Opera Gallery, but if you can’t see it live, you can see a full slideshow below. Check it out!

Back in the early 2000s, there was an amazing line of Muppet Show action figures, created by the now defunct Palisades Toys (which was located here in Maryland, no less).

The figures were beautifully detailed, but more importantly, they had amazing playsets.  Unfortunately, the figure line never got around to making the Muppet Show gang what they needed, a proper stage.

Cut to the obsession of a real life set designer. One Lance Cardinal of Canada saw the opportunity, and built a FULL STAGE from scratch!

It has working lights, working curtains, swappable backdrops, and a very detailed backwall!

While I added my favorite photo above, I cannot underline enough how badly you need to check out the full photo set via the link below.  If you need more, he also made a full backstage area with just as much detail.

I’m in awe, and you will be too!

So now that the massive undertaking that was Tron Legacy has come and gone (with wildly varying opinions as to how it was), Disney is continuing with their plans to build a massive franchise out of everyone’s favorite movie set in a computer.

Since we’ve already had the giant, modern day reboot, the next step is simple – an animated series!

Titled Tron Uprising, the first look at the series is set for the DVD/Blu-Ray set for Tron Legacy, and it found its way onto The GridYouTube today.

Looks pretty rad, right? I agree, and I even dig the not quite Daft Punk score.

While the video isn’t much more than lightcycle racing, there is an overall plot to the series.

Wikipedia sez it’s this…

Beck, a young program who becomes the unlikely leader of a revolution inside the computer world of The Grid. His mission is to free his home and friends from the reign of the villainous Clu 2 and his henchman General Tesler. Beck will be trained by Tron – the greatest warrior the Grid has ever known. Tron will not only teach Beck the fighting skills he needs to challenge this brutal military occupation, but will be a guide and mentor to him as he grows beyond his youthful, impulsive nature into a courageous, powerful leader. Destined to become the new protector of the system, Beck adopts Tron’s persona and becomes the archenemy of Tesler and his oppressive forces.

Tron Uprising is set with an amazing voicecast, including Elijah Wood, Emmanuelle Chriqui, Mandy Moore, Paul Reubens, Nate Corddry, Lance Henriksen and Bruce Boxleitner reprising his role as Tron.  It will hit Disney XD with a 10 part mini series this fall, and premiere as a cartoon proper in Summer 2012.

This could end up great!

Announced over the weekend, cable network FX has officially picked up an adaptation of the fantastic creator-owned comic Powers to pilot.

If you’ve never read Powers before, you’ve been missing out.  Written by amazing comic auteur Brian Michael Bendis (before he ran the Marvel Universe proper), it’s a detective drama set in a world where superpowers are relatively common and centers on two detectives, Christian Walker and Deena Pilgrim, in a Homicide department that deals with cases involving “powers” (people with superpowers).

Without giving too much away about the characters, just know it’s been an amazing read, and I think it will end up an even more amazing TV show.

Produced by Sony Pictures Television, the pilot will be written by Charles H. Eglee (who produced The Walking Dead TV series), and even has the same production team, Circle of Confusion, who oversaw Walking Dead’s amazing success.

If all that wasn’t enough to make nerds excited, it seems we have our Deena!

Battlestar Galactica star Katee Sackhoff has twittered about wanting the role, and even hinted on her Twitter that she’s had some meetings about it.

If you’re not sure if she’s the right person, let’s compare a photo of her to Deena (the blond in the main image above).

Yeah, I thought so.

No set date for Powers, but here’s hoping everything lines up well and we get the series to air soon!

Of course you do!

Straight from last night’s Cartoon Network Friday Night cartoon block, we have our first look at the relaunch of Thundercats, due to hit screens later this year.

How does it look? Just click play. You can definitely tell a proper Japanese animation studio is handling it, it really looks like it should be fansubbed as opposed to going straight to the American airwaves.

What do you think? Are you full of excitement and nostalgia, or is the new Thundercats just not for you? Sound off in the comments.

Marvel No-Prize to the first person who reponds with “Hoooooooooooooo!”

While the quality is usually somewhere between admirable and poor, it’s hard not to respect the gumption of fans who go crazy and make their own fan films.

What is easy to respect, however, is when such fans create movies that are totally worth checking out.

While it’s a painfully short animated film, Superman Classic by Rob Pratt certainly goes into the win column when it comes to fan films.

From the style to the sound to the very well animated action, it’s a complete joy to watch.

Click play on the video above to enjoy, and be amazed at what about six people can do!

Someone give Rob a contract!

See that above?

That right there is the first promotional image for the forthcoming new Thundercats animated series due to hit Cartoon Network next year.

Looks like Lion-O, Cheetara, Panthro and Tygra are ready for action, and honestly, I love the anime redesign from Studio 4°C. The style just screams energy, and hopefully the show will live up to the design.

However, no matter how good or bad it winds up, lets look at how it could have been, with this peek at an abandoned test for a CG rebirth of the classic 80s cartoon, courtesy of some random interneter on YouTube.

Considering some of the most viewed posts on my site here are the Mondo poster reveals and (strangely) all Ninja Turtle related content, I expect to see some excitement about this.

Tomorrow, Thursday, January 20th, Mondo intends to release the next in their ongoing series of amazing limited edition movie posters.

The artist? Jeff Proctor.

The film? 1990′s Live Action Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles flick.

The poster at the top of the post is the regular edition, which is a 24″x36″ print, limited to an edition of 155 prints, for just $40.

Ooh. Variant Action!

However, for those with pricier tastes, the limited edition copy (above) can be yours for $65, a limited edition of 55.

As always, watch Mondo’s Twitter account to find out when they go on sale.

These posters were the exclusive reveal of movie site /film, which leads me to ask – Hey Mondo!? When is Blast-O-Rama gonna get a reveal?!  You know I’d cover it either way. I KNOW YOU READ YOUR GOOGLE ALERTS!

Rant over – enjoy the prints. I know I do!
