I typically don’t speak a lot about the tech world on here, as I tend to more observe that realm than report.   I figure I enjoy tech, I like reading about tech, but there are people far, far more qualified than I to report on it.

However, the latest group of rumored moves from Apple (in a 24 hour period, no less!) have me confused, and interested as to their next step.

I make no bones about it, ever since I purchased an iPod back in 2006, I’ve been a devout fan of Apple.  It lead to me switching to OSX, and I follow their every move with a general furvor.

Despite this, I really cannot figure where Apple is going right now.

They’re a company in flux with Steve Jobs out with health issues, yet between iTunes, the iPhone and increasing market computing share (not to mention $29 Billion in cash reserves, which is amazing in this economy), they’re in a place that most companies would love to be in.

So what are these moves that are so confusing?

1.  A Possible Purchase of Twitter

-Rumors hitting today indicate that Apple may be looking into purchasing Twitter for $700 Million.  While Twitter continues to grow (and the iPhone is surely helping, with it’s multitude of dedicated apps), what could Apple see in a company that generates no revenue stream?  Sure, when the word was that Google was attempting to purchase it, I could see why, between advertising on keywords and improving Twitter’s search, it’d be a Google Goldmine.  But for Apple – what’s the appeal?  I can’t even imagine it.

2. An Attempt In The Game Industry

Now this one I’m mostly basing on conjecture, but hear me out.  The iPod and iPhone are becoming ubiquiteous devices, and I’m sure while the AppleTV has done fine, they’d want a stronger presence in your home.  And hell, apparently the sales of games for the iPod Touch and iPhone have had Nintendo and Sony interested in whether a third competitor would arrive into the already bloody handheld console war.

But with the rumors that Apple wants to purchase EA (who holds a ridiculously large percentage of the home gaming market); and their hiring of Bob Drebin, who designed the graphics processor for Nintendo’s Gamecube, and Richard Teversham, formerly the senior director for insights and strategy at Microsoft’s Xbox Business…this could be the first shot against Microsoft, Nintendo and Sony for the home gaming market.

Could the market hold a 4th system? Maybe not.  But imagine if you will…

A set top box similar to the AppleTV, which allows you to stream your iTunes music and movies, download games, and do typical internet based tasks (e-mail, browsing, etc.)…add a possible interface for the iPhone and iPod touch…

Could change the way we see gaming.

What do you think Apple’s up to? Is this the next big step for them? Or a terrible journey down an ugly road?  Leave your thoughts in the comments.

See that above?

Beneath that large watermark from the fine folks at Empire Magazine, that’s your first look at the future of cinema.

It shows the filming of Tintin, co-directed by Steven Spielberg and Peter Jackson, as the titanic directors give cues to Tintin (Jamie Bell) and Captain Haddock (Andy Serkis).

The movie is employing INTENSE use of motion capturing, so by the time the flick hits screens in 2011, it won’t look at all like two dudes in jumpsuits, but instead, a fully realized cgi version of the comic classic.

Between movies like this, and James Cameron’s Avatar, the movie world is moving more from the expensive and lengthy process of building, forming and filming, and more to creating virtual worlds around exisiting actors, and it should be interesting to see the results.  The movie just wrapped filming (in 32 days!), and I can’t wait to see how it looks once all the bells and whistles are applied.

You ever feel like your day could use some working it?  Maybe some making it?

Or perhaps even some doing it, which makes us stronger?

Now is the time, thanks to iDaft beta, the Daft Punk console courtesy of Najle.com.

It’s a keyboard based flash-app which gives you a whole slue of Daft Punk samples right at your fingers!

I forsee irritating people with this.

I think I’m officially an old man, as I’m now totally stunned by how small and how powerful mp3 players can be.

The new iPod Shuffle was revealed today, and it’s probably the tiniest one yet, with a 4GB storage capacity (at just $80).  As you can see from the photo above, there are no buttons on the Shuffle, with nary a design to be seen on the product.  Essentially, the player has been reduced to a plastic clip.

So, how do you control it?  2 ways.  One, the integrated controls on the new Apple headphones (first seen with the most recent iPod Touch & iPhone revisions), and the other, more interesting way is…IT TALKS TO YOU.

That’s right, using what’s called VoiceOver, the shuffle reads off track titles and playlist titles, so you know what’s about to play. Honesty, based on the samples on Apple’s site, it’s just the basic MacSpeak voice, which interrupts the first few seconds of the song.  Me thinks that it’s going to divide and irriate fans.

Either way, I look forward to the next revision of the iPod Shuffle, which is just a pair of earbuds.  You know it’s coming.

One part Apple, one part Pac-Man homage, this might be the coolest iPod speaker I’ve ever seen.

It’s a freaking PAC MAN ghost! Cost is just $89, and comes in red, blue or white.  No word on whether you can eat it after taking a power pellet.

Well, we knew eventually they’d start selling comics to the web…and I can’t say I like the look of these too much.

Marvel’s not really reinventing the wheel with their new line of “motion comics”, following in the footsteps of the 60′s Marvel cartoons (which used similar technology) and the more recent DC motion comics for Watchmen.

But let’s be honest, these just look….bizarre.  Jerky motion, unnatural animation.  It kinda freaks me out.  I will give Marvel the extra point for using different voice actors, unlike DC, who uses one voice actor as narrator and entire cast.

Here’s a suggestion:  Marvel, you want to get comics on the web legally?  You want people reading your comics on the iPhone and iPod touch? Why don’t you team up with uClick on their GoComics player?  Just a suggestion.

Sony Releases New Stupid Piece Of Shit That Doesn’t Fucking Work

I know we’ve been afraid of The King for a few years now, but I’ve officially become convinced that Burger King is pure evil.

Just yesterday, BK announced a brand new Facebook application entitled WHOPPER SACRIFICE.

What’s the gimmick?  Here goes…

You install “Whopper Sacrifice”, and upon clicking it, you get a list of your Facebook friends.  For every 10 friends you highlight, and choose to delete, you get a coupon for a free Whopper.

Here’s the catch!  Your friend, who you “sacrificed”, gets a message indicating that you feel that they are less important to you than a Whopper.

Thanks BK and Facebook!  I can only imagine the legion of scorned exes and fairweather friends which are making burger lovers’ life a living hell today.
