Hands down, one of my favorite albums this year is Arcade Fire‘s The Suburbs.
I didn’t think it was possible for them to properly follow up Funeral and Neon Bible, but yet they handed in the third in what will no doubt be looked back on a series of some of the greatest albums ever written.
Anyway, with the release of their new single, the title track “The Suburbs” comes a video.
But not just any video, oh no.
It’s the music video return of amazing director Spike Jonze, more recently known for his theatrical adaptation of Where The Wild Things Are.
Unsurprisingly, the combination has made for a great video. Apparently part of a short film Jonze directed, it starts off innocent enough, but changes dramatically.
That’s all I’ll say. Click play, and get ready for great music and great imagery.
This coming Thursday night marks “Tron Night”, Disney’s attempt to recreate the excitement of August 2009′s Avatar Day by building hype for Tron Legacy via a screening of 20 minutes of footage.
Little did they realize that all they needed to do was release a brief video of footage scored by Daft Punk.
The above video for “Derezzed” was released today by the Disney Netherland’s YouTube page, and it simply rules the house.
I’ll be at “Tron Night” Thursday evening, and will give you the full run down right here late Thursday night. I’m excited.
While the song itself isn’t entirely my bag, the latest video from My Chemical Romance, “Na Na Na ((Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na)” absolutely delivers on the promise of the “Art Is A Weapon” teaser video I blogged about a month ago.
Officially introducing viewers to the world of California in the year of 2019, plus the bands new aliases (which I assume are the Killjoys, based on the albums title), it’s about 5 minutes of glorious 70′s action homages and sentai references, plus, of course, comics god Grant Morrison as the main villain.
All and all, I’d have to say I’d be more interested in a full DVD of videos like this, but if the song is your bag, get excited as The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys is due to hit on November 22nd.
You ever have those projects that on paper sound great, but would probably never really happen?
One such project was Trent Reznor taking the world he created in 2005′s nine inch nails concept album Year Zero, and turning it into a mini-series, TV show or film.
Painting a picture of a dark world where art is banned (and the leader is similar to a certain president who may or may not have been in charge at the time of the recording), Reznor grabbed the worlds imagination with not just the album, but . Simply put, people wanted to see more of the world of Year Zero. But the idea of it sounded like a pipe dream.
Five years later, Reznor, with the help of BBC Worldwide Productions and HBO, is making that dream into a reality.
Working alongside Carnivale creator Daniel Knauf, Reznor is currently working on the series bible (the documentation which the writing of the series is built upon), and then the more traditional phases of production will begin.
Creating a television show can be a marathon, and while this is only the first step ran, it’s a great way to start, with two creative partners who are known to let their talent run wild.
As My Chemical Romance has built their musical empire over the past decade, I cannot say I’ve ever found myself a fan.
Sure, my comicing cohort has been singing their praises for as long as I’ve known him, but they never grabbed my interest.
Until now.
I had already been converted to the creative talents of their lead singer, Gerard Way, ever since he wrote two of the best miniseries to come out of comics in the past few years, , and now with the promotional short film/trailer for their next album, titled The True Lives of The Fabulous Killjoys, I think I might just be interested to see what’s next.
Titled Art is a Weapon (embedded at the top of this post), the bright costumes and almost European feel to the short make me want to see a full length adventure with these characters. It doesn’t hurt that comics god appears as the villain, either.
Now, here’s the interesting twist. At San Diego Comic Con 2009, Way announced his next comics project after Umbrella Academy, with one of my favorite artists, Becky Cloonan. The title of that project? .
The plot, it thickens!
I forsee this being some crazy comic, movie, album extravaganza, and I can’t wait to see how it all comes together this November!
