I’m not sure when exactly Danny Trejo‘s career was built around breaking the fourth wall, but I certainly can’t complain about it.

Having finally watched Machete over the holiday, I’m quite excited to see any film that has the balls to put him as the lead, and it appears that this year, there will be no film ballsier than Bad Ass.

Yes, that’s its title.  Starring Trejo as a bearded old man who beats the crap out of dudes on a bus and then…uh, goes after more justice? Bad Ass could be this year’s Hobo with a Shotgun. If the trailer wasn’t enough to sell you, c’mon, Ron Pearlman and Charles S. Dutton are in it too!

Bad Ass has not a release date as of yet, but I think we all know that it’s going to rule whenever it comes up. Start shining the Oscars now. Emmys too. And Tonys. And what the hell, a VMA or 3.

EDIT: Thanks to my Super Art Fight co-hort Bryan Prindiville, the video which INSPIRED THE FILM!

We’ve seen the poster, now see it in action – Ridley Scott returns to the world of sci-fi with Prometheus, the flick that may, or may not be, a prequel to the classic Alien.

It’s a trailer that is short on plot but big on imagery, and boy oh boy does it do its job at selling me a seat this summer!  Awesome spacesuits, the Space Jockeys, Stringer Bell, Magneto and Lisbeth Salander are all ready to take us on a journey unlike any before.

Prometheus hits theaters June 8th, 2012.

Wow. Earlier this year, I went through the gauntlet of rewatching the Lord of the Rings Extended Trailer on Blu-Ray, and it was a heck of a journey.

Well, after years of hard work, Peter Jackson is ready to show us his return to the shire with The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey.

And oh my god. This looks AMAZING. The music, the songs, the tease at the end of the trailer. Goosebumps, people. Goosebumps.

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey hits theaters on December 14th, 2012.

I know, I know. You probably have already watched it a billion times, but now that a full, official trailer for The Dark Knight Rises is here, I HAD to post about it.

So, as you rewatch it, here are some fun things I’ve noticed in my rewatches for you to note this time.

  • I love Selena Kyle’s speech to Bruce – the idea of Catwoman as a “99%”er is a unique spin, and really should add some real life fuel to the fire, similar to Joker’s terrorism acts in The Dark Knight.
  • That crowd scene in the football stadium? Yeah, I’m in there somewhere. Perhaps multiple times, with the CG doubling.  Last August, myself and some friends of mine headed to Pittsburgh to be extras, during a long, hot brutal day. But hey, we got to be in the final Christopher Nolan Batman film. How cool is that?
  • Are those Martha Wayne’s pearls that Selena is trying on?
  • Is Bruce walking with a cane in there? Why would he need it?
  • To hush down the internet – yes, the Rogues sign in the crowd has a Robin-styled R. Fans made that sign. Their easter egg. Not Nolan’s.
  • How cool, and powerful is it, that this is the final Batman film and the trailer barely involves him? Says something about the scope here.
  • Finally, HOW AWESOME IS THE BAT HOVERCRAFT THING OR WHATEVER. OH MY GOD.

Yeah. Watch it again. And again. And again.

The Dark Knight Rises hits theaters on July 20th, 2012.

I can’t front, seeing the 2010 version of Clash of the Titans was one of the worst movie going experiences of my life.  That said, it was an early 3D film post-Avatar, so it made a lot of money (almost $500 mil).  So someone at Warner Bros thought we wanted more.

In turn, we now have this coming out in March – Wrath of the Titans.

Looks like a bunch of pointless sound and fury, and I’m pretty sure someone’s carpet died on Sam Worthington’s head.  This is going to be awful.

Wrath of the Titans sucks it up on March 30th, 2012.

One of the coolest things the internet brings us isn’t just all the information on what is happening, but also what could have been.

As we look toward this summer’s release of The Amazing Spider-Man, the big reboot of the webswinger franchise, it’s probably a great time to look back at 2002′s Spider-Man, directed by Sam Raimi.  While it maybe hasn’t aged too well, it’s still one of my favorite movie experiences of all time.  One of the things that hasn’t aged great, besides Macy Grey, is the somewhat odd Green Goblin costume.  With a big clunky helmet, it feels Power Rangers-esq at times.

But, at one time, we almost had something VERY close to the comic book original. As the above YouTube video shows, special effects masters Amalgamated Dynamics actually had a working makeup/animatronic model which would have made Willem DeFoe look much like the Norman Osborn of the page.

Personally, I would have loved to see this design in action, but I suppose the remote control aspects may have proven too difficult for action scenes. Maybe we’ll see something like this in Amazing Spider-Man 2?

Just a week or so ago, I was rambling on Facebook about how I am far too excited about the forthcoming Marvel and DC Super Hero lines of Legos, given that I am officially in my late 20s, rounding my way to 30.

That said, Lego just made a new licensing announcement that has me VERY VERY giddy – Lord of the Rings!

The first sets are scheduled to hit in Summer 2012, and I’d have to wager a Lego Lord of the Rings video game isn’t too far away, probably Hobbit sets too.

While preliminary images of the sets keep getting taken down across the net, here’s a list of what the initial sets should be:

  • “9469 Gandalf Arrives” – Minifigures: Gandalf, Frodo
  • “9470 Shelob Attacks” – Minifigures: Samwise, Frodo, Gollum
  • “9471 Uruk-hai Army” – Minifigures: x4 Uruk-hai with a siege crossbow, x1 Rohirrim Soldier, x1 Rider Of Rohan with his horse
  • “9472 Attack On Weathertop”- Minifigures: Samwise, Frodo, Aragon, x2 Nazgul
  • “9473 Mines Of Moria” – Minifigures: Frogo, Gimli, Legolas, Boromir, x2 Goblins, x2 Skeletons, Cave Troll
  • “9474 The Battle Of Helms Deep” – Minifigures: Aragon, Gimli, Legolas, Theoden, x5 Uruk-hai

So, will you become a member of the Adult Lego Collector army this Summer? Will you pass it on to your kids? Is it just a step too far for our favorite building block? Sound off in the comments.

I’ve heard about this movie for years, but next summer, Bryan Singer’s reimagining of the classic Jack & The Beanstalk hits theaters.

It’s called Jack the Giant Killer, and like many other fairy tale interpretations hitting theaters these days, they’re aiming for the whole grim and gritty thing to sell tickets.

What a silly idea. Sure, many of these fairy tales were originally grim and dark, but why the hell do they keep pushing classic tales into molds that they never fit in before?  Maybe I’m wrong, maybe this will be good, but the trailer tells me otherwise.

Jack The Giant Killer hits theaters on June 15th, 2012.
