Tron by Martin Ansin

While the jury has definitely been split on TRON Legacy, there is little doubt of the importance of it and it’s 1982 predecessor TRON in the world of geek.

That said, it probably comes as little surprise that our favorite poster company, Mondo, is releasing an unprecedented third set of posters to celebrate both films.  Due to hit MondoTees.com for sale later today,  this set of two 24″x36″ posters are designed by the masterful Martin Ansin, known to Mondo fans for his work on posters for both Dracula and The Mummy.

What’s really cool is these posters not just feature a unique UV varnish, they also glow in the freakin’ dark.

If you are interested in these posters (which will only be sold in sets!), they will be available for $90, limited to 390 pairs.  If you miss out, don’t fret too much, as Mondo will have an exclusive variant edition on sale through Sideshow Collectables in the next few weeks.

As always, stick to Mondo’s Twitter for release details, and good luck!

This is a really cool project. Australia based artist Josip Kelava took a group of his favorite heroes and villains from the worlds of comics, video games and movies, and put together a series of eight, minimalist yet striking prints, mixing these characters with iconic typography.

The images grab you by the eyeyballs and don’t let go – check out the full selection of images in the gallery below, and for some awesome process images, check out the source link – Josip did some amazing work here.

Wes Anderson. Just by saying his name, you should already have an idea of the film. Few filmmakers are that iconic and unique. Of course in some instances, this can also tell you whether or not you’re interested, and I’m going to say that if you’re not – you’re going to want to move on.

Embedded above, that is the first trailer for Anderson’s latest film – Moonrise Kingdom.

His first film since 2009′s The Fantastic Mr. Fox, and first live action film since 2007′s The Darjeeling Limited, this film brings together arguably one of his best ensemble casts ever – Bill Murray, Bruce Willis, Jason Schwartzman and Ed Norton amongst others (shockingly, no Wilsons) and it just looks great.

If you’re looking for the official plotline, here you go:

Set on an island off the coast of New England in the summer of 1965, MOONRISE KINGDOM tells the story of two twelve-year-olds who fall in love, make a secret pact, and run away together into the wilderness. As various authorities try to hunt them down, a violent storm is brewing off-shore — and the peaceful island community is turned upside down in more ways than anyone can handle. Bruce Willis plays the local sheriff. Edward Norton is a Khaki Scout troop leader. Bill Murray and Frances McDormand portray the young girl’s parents. The cast also includes Tilda Swinton, Jason Schwartzman, and Jared Gilman and Kara Hayward as the boy and girl.

Moonrise Kingdom hits theaters on May 25th, 2012 – I can’t wait. This should be an absolute joy.

From the trailer, it almost feels like a more indie friendly version of Bridesmaids, but Friends With Kids basically features every well rounded comedic actor you enjoy right now. You’ve got your Jon Hamms, your Kristen Wiigs, your Adam Scotts, and even your Chris O’Dowdses – and it looks like a heck of an enjoyable film too.

Add this to my “see in 2012″ list.

Friends With Kids hits theaters in April 2012.

One of my favorite movies of all time is the Japanese film Battle Royale.

An absolutely brilliant satire which is equal parts reality TV show and forced Lord of the Flies, Battle Royale is the tail of a Japanese high school class who is forced into a televised competition where 42 students are placed on an island, and only one may live.

While this may also sound quite a bit like The Hunger Games, Battle Royale did it first, releasing in theaters way back in the year 2000.  I’ve owned the movie in a number of formats since (VCD, Theatrical DVD, Directors Cut DVD), but Lionsgate is bringing it to the US this March, marking probably the first instance of me owning it legally!

The DVD and Blu-Ray release will be on March 20th, 2012 and will come in two flavors.

The standard edition, cover above, includes Battle Royale: Director’s Cut with Japanese Dolby TrueHD 7.1, English Dolby TrueHD 5.1, and English subtitles.

For the super nerds (i.e. me, who already has it pre-ordered on Amazon), there is Battle Royale: The Complete Collection!

This four disc set includes the following:

  • Battle Royale Director’s Cut with Japanese Dolby TrueHD 7.1, English Dolby TrueHD 5.1, and English subtitles.
  • Battle Royale Theatrical Cut with Japanese and English Dolby TrueHD 5.1, and English subtitles.
  • Battle Royale II with Japanese Dolby TrueHD 5.1 and English subtitles.
  • Battle Royale Bonus Disc (DVD), containing the following:
    -The Making Of Battle Royale
    -Battle Royale Press Conference
    -Instructional Video: Birthday Version
    -Audition & Rehearsal Footage
    -Special Effects Comparison Featurette
    -Tokyo International Film Festival 2000
    -Battle Royale Documentary
    -Basketball Scene Rehearsals
    -Behind-The-Scenes Featurette
    -Filming On-Set
    -Original Theatrical Trailer
    -Special Edition TV Spot
    -TV Spot: Tarantino Version

I’m totally blown away that this is finally getting released over here, and with such a great release. It’s gonna be nice to go back to the Island this March.

So, this coming fall, James Bond returns to the silver screen in the hopefully to be awesome flick Skyfall.  Not only is this the third flick for Daniel Craig, who I feel has been amazing, but it marks the fiftieth anniversary of the Bond franchise.

In turn, MGM/Fox are also planning something for HD movie nerds like myself – Bond 50: The Complete 22 Film Collection, a 23 disc collection of every single Bond movie on blu-ray.

For nine of these films, this is the first release in high-def, and it’s sure to be one of the big movie sets for the holiday season.  They’ve released a very cool trailer to celebrate the set, and I’ve embedded it below.

The full details of the release are not known at this time, but the set will retail for $299.99. That said, if you head to Amazon.com right now, you can get it for just $199.99!

Very cool, right? Yeah, I thought so.  Just remember – James is kind of an asshole.

Welp, this is going to be awesome. The absolutely fun and sublime Lego Batman video game is going to be getting a sequel this summer (just in time for The Dark Knight Rises), and it looks like Travelers’ Tales is going to step their game up.

For the forthcoming Lego Batman 2: DC Super Heroes, the game takes a note from the new sets from Lego and adds Superman, Wonder Woman and more of the DC Universe to the next block-styled Dark Knight adventure.

No word on all the heroes we’ll be seeing in the game, but we’ll be seeing it on almost every system ever – the PC, 360, PS3, DS, 3DS, Wii and PS Vita.

Time to blow more stuff up for block pieces.

You ever find yourself looking at a licensed item and wondering to yourself how the hell it got approved?

That’s where I am today.  See, the merchandising world of Star Wars apparently hasn’t hit an equilibrium in its highs and lows. In turn, the fine retailers of comically large, chain covered pants at Hot Topic have decided to shift the seasaw to the side of bad with this giant turd – The Chewbacca Hoodie.

Covered in brown fur, and apparently so uncomfortable that even the dude who is being paid to wear it can’t look excited, this damn thing costs $70-$74, and most importantly, your shot at ever being taken seriously by a loved one ever again.

Click through fast, furverts, this one is gonna go fast as we enter the freezing season.
