Raise your hand if you’re actually surprised about this one.  What, only a few of you? Good, you’re getting smart.

Continuing in the trend of Super Street Fighter IV following Street Fighter IV and dozens of other variants of prior fighting games being released prior, Capcom has announced that superhero based mega fighter Marvel Vs. Capcom 3 will be getting an upgrade on both PS3 and 360 this November – Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3!

To be sold as a stand alone disc for $40 (sorry, DLC lovers), this game includes the full roster from MvC3 proper (including both DLC characters) but adds eight new levels, a spectator mode to online play, enhanced balancing, and perhaps most importantly a dozen new characters.

Here, I’ll let the two announcement trailers do the talking (thanks, Joystiq!)

For those of you wanting to keep track of all of the new characters, here’s how they breakdown by grouping…

Marvel gets the following new characters:

  • Ghost Rider
  • Dr Strange
  • Nova
  • Rocket Raccoon
  • Hawkeye
  • Iron Fist
On the Capcom side, you’ll be seeing these video game legends hit the fray:
  • Strider
  • Firebrand
  • Vergil
  • Frank West
  • Phoenix Wright
  • Nemesis

All and all, it’s an interesting mix of characters I can’t wait to play as (Iron Fist and Phoenix Wright), characters that I’m amazed by (Rocket Raccoon?!) and characters that while I’m sure fans are stoked, I’m indifferent toward (Dr. Strange).  I will say that I’m happy that my old MvC2 team of Spider-Man, Strider and Cable is just a little closer to coming back into action.

Below is a full gallery of the official art of the newbies, be sure to check that out.  If you’re lucky enough to be in San Diego this weekend, a playable version of the game should be on the show floor.

What say you readers – is a dozen new characters worth the $40? Personally, I think so, and that’s even after spending the extra $$$ on the Collector’s Edition of the last game (what can I say, I love steelbooks).

Hands down, the game I am most excited to play this fall has to be Batman: Arkham City.

The highly anticipated sequel to the first Batman game to really get it right, Batman: Arkham Asylum, it extends the gameplay from the constraints of being within the Asylum proper, to being in a full scale version of Gotham City.

We’ve already seen that joining Batman on his quest will be the playable Catwoman, but as Warner Bros Interactive has just revealed, Batman will also be joined by Robin!

As seen in the image above, Robin certainly looks way more badass than usual in this go around, almost looking like Cole from Infamous, if he were the latest Robin.

For the continuity nerds, it’ll be the Tim Drake version of Robin appearing in game, but there are two very key caveats.

1. Robin will only be playable in the different challenge maps.

2. Robin will be a Best Buy pre-order exclusive.

Yeah, it’s the latter that really bugs me.  I don’t understand why key content is being locked away for different retailers.  Granted, if Warner Bros continues as they did with Mortal Kombat, all exclusive DLC will be available eventually, but it still bothers me.

Oh well, at least it’s not Gamestop exclusive, am I right?

Batman: Arkham City hits shelves on October 18th, 2011.

Honestly, for me, E3 this year has been kind of weird.

Microsoft bored me to tears.  Sony has a nice looking handheld with the PS Vita, but if the PSP is any indication, that could be DOA.  Nintendo came the closest to getting me legitimately excited, but the 3DS is still too expensive (no matter how great the Mario and Mariokart games looked) and the Wii U seems interesting, but I’ll need hands on time first.

Going into this year, I was interested in two games – Uncharted 3 and Batman: Arkham City, and luckily, they both still look GREAT!

But there was another title that I completely forgot – Bioshock Infinite.

How soon I forget the colorful, airship filled sequel to one of the best first person shooting series of this gen.  And this new trailer? Just reminds me how silly I am for forgetting about it.

This looks AMAZING. From the colors to the art style to the gameplay – THIS is what I want in a game.

Congrats, Irrational Games – you have me day one…whenever that is.

So after the super success of Batman: Arkham Asylum, Batfans and gamers all across the globe are anxiously awaiting this fall’s Batman: Arkham City.

But what if I told you that there was ANOTHER Batman game coming?

Sure enough there is, and it’s not really a traditional Batman game by ANY means.

Being produced by Monolith Productions (F.E.A.R.), Gotham City Impostors is a fast-paced, online multiplayer first person shooter similar to the ultra popular Team Fortress 2, but with 2 very unique classes.

Instead of being say a Spy or Heavy Gunner, you have 2 crews…The Batz and The Jokerz.

While the game is very early on in production, early word is that it is some silly, over the top fun, and currently supports battles of up to 8 players.  If you want to get an idea of how unique of a Batman game this will be, take a look at this first piece of promotional art.

Yeah.

Gotham City Impostors is set to hit PC, PSN and XBox Live at a date to be announced.

You ever find yourself seeing something on the web, and realizing that although you never thought of it before then, you want it more than anything else, in the blink of an eye?

Well, thanks to the folks at Bite.ca, I really want Angry Batbirds!

A brilliant mashup of mobile gaming addiction Angry Birds and the goddamn’d Bat-Universe, I really want DC and Rovio to start working on this IMMEDIATELY.

Check out the gallery below for a look at each awesome redesign, featuring the birds as the heroes, and the pigs as the villains.

Much like with movies, many games never see the light of day.

Amazing projects put together by very talented people, but measured even at the last minute as not really cutting it, there are dozens, if not hundreds or thousands of games lost to the ether.

One such game was the Electronic Arts title codenamed LMNO.

Spearheaded by producer Steven Spielberg, LMNO was to be the second game for EA overseen by the star director following Boom Blox for the Wii, which itself was codenamed PQRS.

But in 2005, LMNO was the title that a team of talented artists and programmers were looking to make come to life.  The concept was gutsy, to say the least. A mix of first-person parkour movement with adventure/RPG objectives and escape-focused gameplay, it was to be based around the player’s relationship with an alien-looking character named Eve.

In the article linked below, you get to see how such a promising title by such talented people fell apart.  But not without seeing what could’ve been.

The alien you see above is Eve, and her tale is if nothing else an interesting one.

If you have any interest in gaming, or how games are created, you owe it to yourself to read the linked article below.

In the meantime, here’s a look at the game that may’ve been.

If you’re a big arcade gamer from the early 90′s, that wonderfully engrish laden post title should be enough to get you excited.

But for those of us who aren’t quite getting it, I’ll cut to the chase.

The classic, and downright amazing for it’s time, six player X-Men arcade game from 1992 by Konami will be coming to XBox Live Arcade and the Playstation Network.

Unique because of it’s six player cabinet (although in some locations, a 4-player cabinet was available), this X-Men game has never been available for home systems, and unless you’re lucky enough to have a machine near you, hasn’t been played regularly by gamers in nearly twenty years.

That’s all going to change with this downloadable only release, where the only changes being made are the addition of online co-op (for up to 6 players) and adjustable difficulty.

No release date is set at this time, but if you’re like me, you cannot WAIT to play funky, 80′s styled Cyclops, Colossus, Wolverine, Storm, Nightcrawler, or Dazzler!

This release was officially announced at New York Comic Con this weekend, to (understandably) much yelling and excitement.

Now if only they could port the Simpsons arcade game…

You may be familar with the talented team at 2 Player Productions from their amazing work on the Penny Arcade TV series (seriously, how awesome is the end montage of the season finale?).

But before they were filming the exploits of the world’s largest webcomic, 2 Player Productions were put on the map with their groundbreaking documentary of the NYC Chiptune music scene, Reformat The Planet.

For those unaware, chiptune music is 8-bit style music composed using hacked NESs, GameBoys and other classic gaming systems, and is a world populated by such great artists as Bit Shifter and Anamanaguchi.

Reformat The Planet documents the chiptune scene around the time of the 2006 Blip Festival, and after doing the festival circuit, the DVD has been officially released thanks to the fine folks at Fangamer.

Here’s the trailer:

The DVD is available in a number of awesome packages including prints, posters, pins and t-shirts, but let’s be honest, it just looks like an awesome doc, no matter the package you buy. Personally, I’d like the shirt/DVD combo myself, as it’s a rad shirt, but more than anything, I’d love to see the birth of the growing world of Chiptune music.

Reformat the Planet is currently available via Fangamer.
