But before they were filming the exploits of the world’s largest webcomic, 2 Player Productions were put on the map with their groundbreaking documentary of the NYC Chiptune music scene, Reformat The Planet.
For those unaware, chiptune music is 8-bit style music composed using hacked NESs, GameBoys and other classic gaming systems, and is a world populated by such great artists as Bit Shifter and Anamanaguchi.
Reformat The Planet documents the chiptune scene around the time of the 2006 Blip Festival, and after doing the festival circuit, the DVD has been officially released thanks to the fine folks at Fangamer.
Here’s the trailer:
The DVD is available in a number of awesome packages including prints, posters, pins and t-shirts, but let’s be honest, it just looks like an awesome doc, no matter the package you buy. Personally, I’d like the shirt/DVD combo myself, as it’s a rad shirt, but more than anything, I’d love to see the birth of the growing world of Chiptune music.
Reformat the Planet is currently available via Fangamer.
The movie’s filmed, the last volume is released, I’ve already reviewed the flick, we’re pretty much done with Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, yes?
Wrong.
In an amazing deluge of well timed marketing, this week is just an absolute flood of Scott Pilgrim related content.
With the interest of keeping everything in one place, here’s everything awesome you need to see from this week.
Scott Pilgrim vs. the World: The Game hit yesterday on PlayStation 3 and hits on August 25th on XBox Live for just $10 (if the PSN price is the same as XBox). Early reviews are VERY positive, and I can’t wait to play it.
Both the official movie soundtrack (featuring Metric, Beck and Broken Social Scene) and the official score (by Nigel Godrich) have been released, and if you like, you can stream both releases here!
Need proof of how perfect a translation the movie is from comic to film? Check out this awesome video which recreates the movie’s trailer with panels from the original comic!
About that video game – before it was an awesome 2-D side scroller, it was just a simple pitch. Want to see how UbiSoft Montreal convinced Bryan Lee O’Malley they were the right developer? Check out this amazing proof of concept video that mixes Scott Pilgrim with some NES classics and chiptune versions of alternative rock hits.
Last, but far from least, if you haven’t read the comics before today, you now have little excuse, as Oni Press has teamed up with Comixology to release the official Scott Pilgrim app for iPhone/iPad! Each volume is just $7, with the latest volume at cover price ($12). Is it sad that I’m considering re-buying them digitally?
The sequel to what I feel is one of the greatest video games of this generation, LittleBigPlanet 2, is finally set and dated.
The PS3 sequel, which as demonstrated in the launch trailer, takes the amazing customization controls from the first title and expands them from platforming games to oh, every game type ever, will hit shelves on November 16th, just in time for the holiday season.

Just in time for the game’s demo at San Diego Comic Con, Capcom has announced a whopping SIX new characters for Marvel Vs. Capcom 3.
Well, actually, make that four…Marvel.com kinda screwed up and announced the back two.
As you can see in the trailer above, the four new characters officially announced were Doctor Doom and Super Skrull for Marvel, and then on Capcom’s side of things, we get the additions of Chun Li and Trish (from Devil May Cry). Four great additions, who look great rendered in the game style, wouldn’t you agree?
I guess if anything the excitement over the four new fighters got Marvel all excited, as they accidentally released images of the next two…Amaterasu from Okami for Capcom, and the Mighty Thor for Marvel! Don’t believe it? The leaked screenshots are included in a full gallery below, including higher rez images of all of the new character art.
So, today we had the release of the much anticipated (and very good) final chapter of the Scott Pilgrim comic series, Scott Pilgrim’s Finest Hour.
And of course, in just about 3 weeks, we’re going to have the release of Scott Pilgrim vs. the World in theaters.
But when will we see Scott Pilgrim vs. the World: The Game?!
Worry not, dear citizens! In addition to releasing a new trailer (above) Ubisoft has announced the release date for the very anticipated 2D side scroller.
Scott Pilgrim vs. the World will hit PSN on August 10th (coinciding with the movie’s soundtrack) and XBox Live Arcade on August 25th! It’ll just be $15.
While I’d love to be one of the first to play it, I think I’ll wait for the XBox release, if just for gamerscore purposes.
So what about you, dear reader? When do you think YOU will pick it up?
This week, I think it’s safe to say my favorite t-shirt site outdid themselves with 2 shirts that combine two of my favorite things – sweets and pop culture references!
Much like lords of the Sith, when it comes to Scott Pilgrim trailers today, there are two.
Released to commemorate the first public showing of the game at E3, this new trailer for the PS3/360 downloadable title showcases more awesome gameplay, more great Paul Robertson sprite work, some of the great cutscenes, 4-player co-op and hell yes! the Anamanaguchi soundtrack.
Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World – The Game hits PS3 on August 10th, with a 360 release on a date to be announced.
Another title to make a big splash at Nintendo’s press conference today, Metroid: Other M was showcased for the second E3 in a row, but this time it had gameplay to show and a release date – August 31st.
Sooner to come than the new Zelda, I have a feeling many a gamer can’t wait to get their hands back on Samus this Fall.
