It’s hard to believe, but it’s been TWENTY YEARS since director Luc Besson gave us the wild and creative sci-fi romp The Fifth Element. But after a prior teaser trailer, and this longer look released today, it sure seems Besson is ready to return to sci-fi glory with the beautiful and adventurous Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets.

Besides having a wonderfully grandiose title, Valerian is based off of a long running comic series from France, giving the movie the potential to grow huge, and spin-off countless sequels, sure to delight the studio…but for me, I don’t care, I’m just excited to see surreal, imaginative, and goddamned colorful sci-fi hit the screen.

I just hope the public doesn’t ignore it, a’la John Carter, and Cara Delevingne gives us a better performance than she did in Suicide Squad.

Here’s your official synopsis:

In the 28th century, Valerian (Dane DeHaan) and Laureline (Cara Delevingne) are a team of special operatives charged with maintaining order throughout the human territories. Under assignment from the Minister of Defense, the two embark on a mission to the astonishing city of Alpha—an ever-expanding metropolis where species from all over the universe have converged over centuries to share knowledge, intelligence and cultures with each other. There is a mystery at the center of Alpha, a dark force which threatens the peaceful existence of the City of a Thousand Planets, and Valerian and Laureline must race to identify the marauding menace and safeguard not just Alpha, but the future of the universe.

Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets hits theaters on July 21, 2017.
