Premiered this morning on Good Morning America (as corporate synergy demands), Pixar has finally revealed the first look at their Fall 2017 release, Coco.

Their second film of 2017, following Cars 3, Pixar is - very similar to Fox’s The Book of Life giving us an animated adventure involving the Day of the Dead.

What makes this interesting is in how the two ideas connect - Coco seems to primarily be about a boy with a goal of becoming an accomplished guitarist, like his (presumably deceased) hero. Yet, he finds himself in the realm of the dead by the end of the teaser. All I know is this - the animation looks lush and beautiful, and I have a soft spot for the Day of the Dead look. So I’m in.

Here’s the official synopsis for the film, via the YouTube trailer:

Despite his family’s baffling generations-old ban on music, Miguel (voice of newcomer Anthony Gonzalez) dreams of becoming an accomplished musician like his idol, Ernesto de la Cruz (voice of Benjamin Bratt). Desperate to prove his talent, Miguel finds himself in the stunning and colorful Land of the Dead following a mysterious chain of events. Along the way, he meets charming trickster Hector (voice of Gael GarcÁa Bernal), and together, they set off on an extraordinary journey to unlock the real story behind Miguel's family history.

A teaser poster for the movie has been released as well, below.

Directed by Toy Story 3’s Lee Unkrich, Coco hits theaters on November 22, 2017.
