The cinematic works of Edgar Wright so far have been a glorious mashup of beloved genres. The horror/romcom hybrid of Shaun of the Dead, the frantic cop comedy Hot Fuzz, the video game/indie rock love letter Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, and the robot apocalypse that was The World’s End.

Each movie showed us that Wright had the chops to deliver a true Hollywood blockbuster. That movie was to be Ant-Man, but the world had other plans…and those plans were called Baby Driver.

Baby Driver premiered earlier tonight at SXSW 2017 (appropriate, given that it was originally supposed to hit theaters this month), and I’m anxiously awaiting the first reviews, but in the meantime, we have the first trailer, which premiered just a few minutes ago.

Baby Driver, in all honesty, appears to ape the plot of Drive. You’ve got a driver for hire, you’ve got a love interest, you’ve got some moody gangsters. But with Edgar Wright, the originality doesn’t come from the story being told, it’s how the story is told, and Baby Driver is no different, a unique action movie where the music literally drives the action. (I bet this will be a very popular soundtrack on your streaming service of choice.)

Ansel Elgort plays the titular Baby, fresh off of breaking teen’s hearts in The Fault in All Stars. He’s joined by Lily James (Cinderella) as the waitress of his dreams, and the team of Kevin Spacey, Jamie Foxx, Jon Bernthal, and an against-type Jon Hamm as the gangsters Baby is involved with.

The action seems relentless yet beautifully framed (thanks, Bill Pope), and all and all, you have a movie I cannot wait for.

The first teaser poster for the film has arrived as well. Check it out below.
