I fell pretty hard for Arrival when its striking teaser trailer hit the web last week.

As it promised, the full trailer for the film has arrived today, and it’s everything you could want and more.

The visuals - from cinematographer Bradford Young (Ain’t Them Bodies Saints) are stunning.  The film itself seems to be a tense stunner, as one would expect from director Denis Villeneuve (Sicario).  And of course, the cast is strong, built around Amy Adams (American Hustle) as the lead.

The idea of a movie focusing less on an alien invasion, and more of the idea of the ability (or even potential) of communicating, is definitely one that hasn’t been the focus before (even if Close Encounters of the Third Kind and Contact touched on it), and it feels like Villeneuve is going to have a potential classic on his hands, just in time for him to take on the Blade Runner sequel.

The Fall movie season was already rife with potential, with a great mixture of Oscar fare and genre material, like Sully, Blair Witch, The Magnificent Seven, Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children, The Accountant, Doctor Strange and Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, among others.

But after seeing this trailer, Arrival is my most anticipated movie of this Fall, a season where over the past few years (Gravity, Interstellar, The Martian) the idea of exploring what more is out there has taken center stage.

I just hope it lives up to the hype.

Arrival hits theaters on November 11, 2016.
