Just some brief thoughts on the different movie trailers (and movie-related ads) which appeared on tonight’s Super Bowl 50 broadcast.

If you follow me on Twitter, you got versions of this, but here’s some extended thoughts - plus an easy one-stop-shop for all of the movie ads which played during the big game!

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice

Airing during the endless pre-show to the game, these ads for Gotham City (starring Ben Affleck’s Bruce Wayne) and Metropolis (starring a subdued version of Jesse Eisenberg’s Lex Luthor) actually served as real ads for Turkish Airlines - who is the “official airline of Batman v Superman“, which is a thing I guess. Either way, this is way better than any of the actual trailers so far.

Deadpool

www.youtube.com/watch

Sigh. With Deadpool hitting theaters on Friday, Fox kinda had to do the proper legwork here for the Merc-With-The-Mouth, but honestly, the more I see of the movie, the less interested I am. I have a bad feeling about this one.

10 Cloverfield Lane

www.youtube.com/watch

Wow! This “blood relative" of Cloverfield sure does look better and better each time we see footage from it. I love that it’s just about a month until release, and we still know nothing. I am full-on in.

Captain America: Civil War

www.youtube.com/watch

This teaser is short and sweet, and honestly, with the team lineup shots alone, would’ve sold people. But I love seeing little new bits like Tony Stark’s new bullet blocking glove of doom. WAY INTO IT!

The Jungle Book

Technically, we at home were just shown a brief spot telling us to then go look up this one. But I’ll save you the time and effort. Jon Favreau’s live-action take on the animated classic still looks stunning (remember - EVERYTHING minus Mowgli is CG), and I’m loving the voice work. This movie could be a huge family hit.

Jason Bourne

www.youtube.com/watch

Bourne 5 finally has a title, and with this first look, appears to be full of crazy, crazy action. I’ve grown to really love Matt Damon with age, and I’ve always thought the Bourne franchise was pretty underrated - even if The Bourne Legacy was a less than stellar effort. But who cares? Matt Damon is back, and he’s in fight clubs and smashing up Vegas while avoiding Tommy Lee Jones. Gonna make for a fun Summertime watch.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows

www.youtube.com/watch

OK, 45 seconds isn’t a lot to go on, but based on what I saw in the prior trailer, and the sheer insanity that KRANG will be in this one, this might make up for all of the sins of the first Michael Bay-produced film. But why the blue hell is Megan Fox dressing up like a schoolgirl? Strikes me as a very Don DiMello-esq move.

Coca-Cola: Coke Mini (Hulk vs. Ant-Man)

www.youtube.com/watch

OK, while not for a movie specifically, how crazy is it that we now get mainstream ads which treat comic characters - especially obscure ones, like Ant-Man - with proper respect? It’s almost like getting a modern version of the classic Hostess Fruit Pie ads, but with way more awesome CG, and Paul Rudd! Best ad of the night, easily.

Independence Day: Resurgence

www.youtube.com/watch

2016 marks TWENTY YEARS since Independence Day, and clearly we still love it, as it was referenced in a Bud Light ad this evening. That said, I’m glad to see that we’re going to make the sequel take full advantage of two decades worth of CG progress, and turn into the “giant alien warfare and destruction" skid. I expect an incredibly dumb thrill-ride.

X-Men: Apocalypse

www.youtube.com/watch

Olivia Munn looks GREAT as Psylocke! The rest, not super surprising, but I can’t believe how comic-accurate she’s turning out to be.

So, what say you? What trailers did you love? What ads did you enjoy? Fire off in the comments.
