The road to the third Star Trek installment has been a bumpy one, but with a writer, director and release date set, we’re inching ever closer to seeing the latest adventure featuring Kirk and crew on the big screen.

How much closer? It sounds like we have an official title set for the film.

According to TrekMovie.com, a leading website for all things Star Trek related, the third film will be titled Star Trek Beyond. According to their sources within the MPAA, the title was officially registered recently, indicating that this is likely the title for the next movie, due next Summer.

This continues the “no colon” trend found with Star Trek Into Darkness, and speaks to the rumors of the new installment being more exploration focused, as opposed to the more Earth-bound installments since JJ Abrams relaunched the franchise in 2009.

With Simon Pegg co-writing the film with Doug Jung (Dark Blue), and Fast & Furious director Justin Lin taking over from Abrams (who is staying on as a producer), I feel confident that the third Trek is in good hands, and I hope that this third film - titled Beyond or not - will be the 50th Anniversary gift Trek fans around the globe have been waiting for.

Star Trek 3 - or Star Trek Beyond hits theaters on July 8, 2016.
