After an unusually high amount of smoke and mirrors, 20th Century Fox has decided to drop the curtain of mystery surrounding their reboot of the classic Marvel Comics series, Fantastic Four.

Directed by Josh Trank - who last gave us the incredible first-person superhero tragedy Chronicle - this is clearly a very different version of Marvel’s First Family. The first teaser hit the Internet earlier today, and while it doesn’t give us much (as a proper teaser trailer should), what’s there is incredibly intriguing.

The teaser strikes a stark tone, in line with the movie’s rumored “body horror” approach towards Reed, Sue, Johnny and Ben’s journey into mystery. I mean, when it comes down to it, their powers are the result of chemical mutations of their bodies - so the ability to take a dark angle is pretty clear. You can also see shades of the Ultimate Fantastic Four run from the early 2000’s. You might also recognize the score from the BBC series Broadchurch.

Fans have been waiting for something substantial to come from the Fantastic Four camp since the movie finished filming last Summer. Rumors have flown about the film, including many pointing toward the movie being a troubled production, and Fox even wanting to replace Trank.

That said, what we have in this first teaser trailer has raised my intrigue and interest - even if I really cannot say for sure if I feel the movie will be good or not.

Josh Trank and writer Simon Kinberg also spoke recently with Collider, taking on much of the rumors and fan fears - and between his statements in the interview, the buzzworthy cast (including Whiplash’s Miles Teller, House of Cards' Kate Mara, and The Wire’s Michael B. Jordan), and the strong tone of this teaser - Fox’s Fantastic Four reboot may be one of the movies to watch for the Summer.
