Marvel Studios has become known for their unique casting. Starting with taking a risk on Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man and continuing to Chris Pratt and Dave Bautista in Guardians of Galaxy, you can’t say that they’ve ever picked the expected choice.

Over the weekend, two pieces of casting came to light for the Captain America sequel, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, expected to be based on the legendary Ed Brubaker run on the comic in the mid-2000’s.

redford

Friday was the first bit of news, from Deadline.com, reporting that - of all actors - Robert Redford would be joining the cast as a senior S.H.I.E.L.D. agent.  Since Marvel producer Kevin Feige has been calling The Winter Solider an homage to 70’s thrillers, it’s only appropriate that the man behind All the President’s Men plays a part, right?

Today, however, brought the strangest of casting news, as UFC Welterweight Champion, Georges St-Pierre will be playing the big screen version of Batroc the Leaper.

batroc

Batroc has always been considered a joke - I mean, look at him, but I have a hunch with GSP in the role, the character will be Batroc (probably no leaper), and WAY more bad ass than the character ever has been in the comics.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier is set for a April 14th, 2014 release.
