We’re not even at Preview Night for SDCC 2012 yet, and one of the most intriguing bits of comic news has already come out of Dark Horse.

Starting in January 2013, the indie publisher will be overseeing a new series of Star Wars comics, titled simply, Star Wars.

The idea - it’s 1977, and the only bit of information which is out for fans is A New Hope. Think a modern day version of the classic Marvel Comics series.

Writing it, we have master scripter Brian Wood, best known for his work on Demo, DMZ,  Channel Zero and his current book The Massive.

On art, we have Carlos D’Anda, character designer for Batman: Arkham Asylum and Batman: Arkham City. And every month, we have a beautiful painted cover from Alex Ross. A peak at the first cover is at the top of the post, and example pages of art appear above and below.

Seriously, how great is the potential of this comic? Yes, that’s Leia wrecking shit in an X-Wing.
