While many people laugh and snicker whenever you mention Judge Dredd, thanks to the crummy mid-90’s film adaptation starring Sylvester Stallone and Rob Schneider, the concept of the comic character has always been super theatrical.

A dark, brooding comic which started in the pages of 2000 A.D., the series has always had a gloomy feel which would play well on screen (in fact, and I could be wrong, but I vaguely recall the series being an inspiration for the design of Gotham in 1989’s Batman film.)

Well, finally, fans of the comic series will get a movie interpretation worthy of the source material, as director Pete Travis (Vantage Point) has put together a dark and R-Rated version, due to hit this fall.  Starring Karl Urban as the lead “hero”, Dredd is set to hit this fall, and JoBlo.com got the exclusive reveal of the poster, which is above.

The poster hits all the right notes, hiding Dredd in the shadows, allowing the trademark helmet to shine through, and between the gloomy tagline and the blood-red title, yeah, no one will mistake this for the Stallone crapfest.

Dredd is set to hit theaters on September 21st, 2012.
