The mighty Marvel movie universe certainly has had an impressive phase one with theatrical interpretations of Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, The Hulk and finally (and most successfully) The Avengers.

The future slate for Marvel Studios includes Iron Man 3 and returns to the world of Captain America and Thor, but there are two movie slots wide open in 2014, for new characters.

There has been much talk as to what characters will get their own films, but the team at Latino-Review.com got an exclusive, and got a pre-SDCC exclusive, saying that the next big Marvel movie franchise will be Black Panther.

Black Panther, also known as T’Challa, first appeared in the 1970s in Marvel Comics, and is no stranger with multimedia properties, having had an animated series on BET and flirted with theatrical development with Wesley Snipes in the lead.

Personally, I’ve never read any of the Black Panther solo books, but he’s always been an interesting character when presented in the big crossovers or as a member of the Avengers, so I could see him being a great new addition to the theatrical universe.

Look for the official word from Marvel at San Diego Comic Con next month.
