It's hard to remember now, but when Taken was released in 2009, we really didn't think of Liam Neeson as the elder statesman Irish badass we think of him as now.  He was thought more of as a solid acting hand with a level of gravitas, who occasionally dabbled in genre fun like Star Wars: Episode I and Batman Begins.

Since then, of course, he’s made his name as a proper action star with movies like The A Team, Battleship and The Grey. Hell, if there’s an Expendibles 3, he’d kinda HAVE to be in it.

That said, this fall, he returns to where it all began. Yep, that’s right, it’s time for Taken 2.

The plot is easy enough - remember those creepy thugs that he got his daughter (Maggie Grace) back from? Yeah, they want revenge, and decide to kidnap him this time.  I’m guessing he’s not going to be sold as a sex slave, but well, who knows these days.  Entertainment Weekly got the first exclusive article on the movie, and in turn, released the stills which are the reason for the post.  The article (linked at the source below) is a good read, a decent interview with Mr. Neeson, but I suppose I’m not too sure if a sequel was necessary.

I mean, the original looked like a cheesy B-movie and turned out great - can lightning strike twice? And more importantly, will the blu-ray have a feature as awesome as the original’s on-screen body count?  Only time will tell.

Taken 2 hits theaters on October 5th, 2012.
