The ongoing rumor mill regarding who would carry the mantle of Captain America on film came to a screeching halt this week as it became very apparent, very quickly that Marvel Films had their man.

The choice to wear the A on his forehead?

Chris Evans.

Yes. Chris “Human Torch” Evans.

Honestly, it’s neither the best, nor worst choice that they could’ve made, but it’s an odd one to say the least.

I really like Evans, I thought he did a great job as the Torch, I loved his lead role in Sunshine, and he did his best to keep Push watchable, but is he the guy worth building such a big franchise around?

I’m really not sure. But Marvel apparently is, as rumors state his deal will lock Evans up for not just a Captain America picture, but possible sequels, appearances in other Marvel films, and yes, the big Avengers movie.

Let’s hope he rocks as Cap.

Thing that isn’t surprising:

After over $1 Billion in worldwide ticket sales, the Transformers film franchise is getting a third, unnecessary, sure to be shit installment.

Thing that is surprising:

Who they talked into appearing in it.

I’m not sure if Michael Bay really loved Burn After Reading (and I can’t blame him, it’s a heck of a fun movie), but he has somehow talked John Malkovich and Frances McDormand to join the cast of the third robot battling flick.

Malkovich is supposed to be Skippy LaBeef’s first boss, and McDormand will be the head of National Intelligence, but really…how the hell did they get talked into this?

Also added to the cast this week, Ken Jeong, who while I love, really is saying “yes” to too many films as of late. Oh well.

Transformers 3 leaves Paramount Pictures laughing all the way to the bank in Summer 2011.

Lovingly ripped from Comedy Central’s video player, a kind soul has posted the teaser trailer for the new season of Futurama hitting your TV screen this summer.

It’s only 30 seconds long, but what a great 30 seconds it is.

It’s Futurama, and yes – it’s truly back.

It goes without saying that I’m super excited for the summer of Scott Pilgrim which is about to be upon us.

I’ve blogged at length about Scott Pilgrim’s Finest Hour, plus the film adaptation from Edgar Wright, but what if you have no idea who or what this Scott Pilgrim is?

Why not let some smooth beats and sweet rhymes catch you up to speed?

Coming from Adam WarRock and the Infinity Watch (an appropriately nerdy rapper name if there ever was one), their track “I Gotta Believe! (The Scott Pilgrim Recap)” isn’t just sweet as hell, but it also accurately recaps the first five volumes of Bryan Lee O’Malley’s opus.

Click the link, hit play, enjoy and get caught up.

You might be able to say you dug Scott Pilgrim before everyone else.
