The first video game system I owned as a kid was an Atari 2600, with about 13 games, which my parents bought at a flea market.
So when I came upon this blog from Penney Design, who have designed a series of fake 2600 game boxes for modern licensed properties, I totally nerded out.
The above Lost cover is but one of the many great designs on the blog. They’ve created boxes for other properties such as Wall-E, The Dark Knight, Avatar and Cloverfield, amongst others.
Go check them out, they are SUPER well done!

Time to geek-fu this, so read this with the best Comic Book Guy voice……
VGA didn’t exist in 1984, that didn’t come along until 1987. VGA was also specific to the PC architecture, whereas Atari had 256 colors on their GTIA chipped 400/800 computer series in 1981. The Roland MT-32 synth didn’t exist until ’87 as well, although the Atari ST series had full MIDI capability in 1985. Also, it was VCS for “Video Computer System”, which is what the console was called until 1982, when it got assigned Part Number CX2600 (the CX5200 or 5200 Super System came out that year).
I learned to program on the Atari 8-bit series and consoles, so I still know all this by rote.
