This past weekend, the press junket for the modern remake of The Wolfman occurred.  And while I (and others) are excited for it, the press was ready to pounce – not to talk to director Joe Johnston not about the werewolf flick, but instead, his next project The First Avenger: Captain America.

The details he revealed were minor, but have gone out across the web, so I thought I’d gather them for you.

-The main villain will be Red Skull.

-The film will start in the 1940′s during World War II.

-Cap will be portrayed by an actor between the ages of 23-32 (Chuck’s Ryan “Captain Awesome” McPartlin said he tried out for the role), and the casting will be complete by March 1.

-Cap’s costume will start as an outfit for a USO performance, but according to the details leaked by Johnston: In the first USO sequences, the frustrated patriot will be wearing a version that is closer to the classic Jack Kirby-designed costume, but then later as the super-soldier hits the war zone he will be wearing a sturdier, more muted version that he makes himself that is more like battle togs. The stripes across his mid-section, for instance, will be straps, not colored fabric.

Captain America will hit screens Summer 2011.

It’s an amazing world we live in, full of stunning technological advancements.

Sure, we haven’t cured AIDS, Cancer or the common cold, or even figured out how to properly dispose of 3 feet of snow (no, not bitter), but we’ve finally solved one of the problems which I’ve never known was one – THE KETCHUP PACKET!

Coming soon to a restaurant near you is the latest innovation from the fine folks at Heinz, a brand new Ketchup packet, which not only holds more ketchup than the standard foil packet, but also allows you to both dip or squeeze the ketchup from two separate openings!

These packets should start to get rolled out by the Summer, with a full roll out in the fall. What a magical world we live in.

And continuing our Super Bowl movie ads comes this look at Ridley Scott’s version of Robin Hood starring Russel Crowe.

I’ve already gone on record as stating that I get a little too much of a Gladiator vibe from the media shared so far, and this teaser…really doesn’t make me think otherwise.

Maybe adds a tinge of Braveheart to the proceedings, but it certainly doesn’t feel like a Robin Hood movie.  But that’s off of 45 seconds of footage.

Let’s hope they make a stronger case in future trailers!

So when the first trailer for Cop Out hit the web, I was really bummed.

Directed by Kevin Smith, who I grew up loving, and featuring star performances from Bruce Willis, Sean William Scott and Tracy Morgan, who I really enjoy, it seemed like a can’t miss.

And then the trailer really missed. Quite a bit.

But part of me thought that it had to be due to the green band general audiences nature of the trailer.  With Smith directing, the movie had to be a level of filthy, yes?

So now we have the red band trailer, and while I enjoy it far more than the first trailer, I still feel like it hasn’t entirely gelled for me yet.

I think I’ll still be seeing Cop Out when it hits theaters on February 26th, but I don’t have the greatest feeling about it. And that worries me.

One of my favorite films of 2009, District 9 blew me away with it’s amazing effects and stunning storytelling.

But one of the things that really put the film over were the amazing props and effects created for the film.  While we aren’t getting a replica of the amazing mech suit used in the film, Weta has just announced plans to release full scale replicas of the two alien weapons from the film, the Arc Generator (the white gun) and the Gas Projector (the black weapon).

With a limited release of 100 replicas for the Arc Generator and 200 replicas for the Gas Projector, it’s safe to say that while these guns will be lusted over by nerds, they will only be owned by a select few.

Both guns are currently on pre-order for a cool $500 each.

So, we already know that (500) Days of Summer‘s Marc Webb will be helming the 2012 reboot of the Spider-Man film franchise, but what if Sony went in another direction – say – indie favorite director Wes Anderson?

That’s the idea behind this latest YouTube hit, and I’m a little ashamed to say, I’d like to see it in a full, feature length format.

Alas, what could’ve been.

With just hours to go until the Super Bowl, people are making their final picks, and nerds like me are getting excited for the different commericals to make their debut.

On Friday, one of the movie trailers we’ll be seeing during the game made it’s debut, the above first look at M. Night Shaymalan’s film version of the Nicktoon Avatar, The Last Airbender.  Like the teaser before it, I was left somewhat cold, as the trailer gave me, a non-fan no real reason to be excited.

Let’s see what a true Avatar fan has to say, like my good buddy Jami “Angry Zen Master” Noguchi!

I will not pay real money to see this thing, ever. I will not rent it, I will not put it on my Netflix queue, I will not watch it when it comes on broadcast or HBO or Showtime or the airplane. Gauging the initial reactions to this trailer, it appears that this thing will be enough of a financial success for them to make more and that makes me a sad panda, but they will do so without my financial support. Much like Alan Moore, I spit venom all over this thing.

Oh sweet god. You’re fucked, Paramount.

I guess it’s a good time of year to leak info on superhero cartoons.

Earlier in the week we had our first peek at Young Justice League, but now from a licensing fair in Hong Kong, the above flyer appeared, showcasing not only the existing  Superhero Squad cartoon, but the first appearance of the key art for the brand new Avengers animated series due for sometime in 2011-2012.

I’d guess the above image is of the final lineup, with Captain America, Hulk, Iron Man, Thor, Black Panther, Wasp and Ant Man – but is it too much of a stretch to ask if this also hints toward the movie lineup?

Captain America, Hulk, Iron Man and Thor are pretty much givens due to their movie apperances (along with Black Widow), but I could go for a live action interpretation of Black Panther along with everyone’s favorite dysfunctional superhero couple, Wasp and Ant Man.
