It was if a million nerds facepalmed, all at once.

Fresh off the newswire from my favorite comic news and rumors site, Bleeding Cool, comes word that the unfilmable comic which had a film, Watchmen, may soon be the unsequelable comic with many, many sequels.

Sound like comic creation heresy? You’re not far off base.

Alan Moore, the writer/co-creator of Watchmen, has wanted nothing to do with a sequel or continuation of the comic.  Dave Gibbons, the artist/co-creator? Again – wanted nothing to do with a sequel. And DC President Paul Levitz had personally banned any sequel or continuation of arguably the greatest graphic novel of all time.

So of course, now that Paul Levitz has walked away from his role of DC president, DC Comics Senior VP/Exec Editor Dan DiDio has decided “if it’s fixed, break it!” as he is looking into putting together a series of prequels and ongoing series, spinning off of Watchmen.

While I don’t doubt that there would be a huge influx of sales initially for this project – it still cheapens the original.  And apparently possible creators have been standoffish about taking on the project – but you know there are some who will take it on regardless.

Get ready for another classic to be ruined.

Over 20 years since it’s release, I don’t think anyone would disagree if you thought there was zero way a sequel to Tron would be a very anticipated film.

More of a cult classic since it’s release, Tron never really blew up the box office or had a huge following – but if the hype surrounding Tron Legacy is any indication, that’s about to change, and fast.

But the hype train leading to the Christmas 2010 release of the 3D film rolls on, with this latest still, of Jeff Bridges reprising his role as Kevin Flynn.  But the still appears to be within the Tron world – so is he Clu?

We’ll know more as the release of Tron Legacy gets closer, but in the meantime, you could click for a super large version of the image – perhaps clues are hidden within!

2010 already seems to be a huge year for artistic hybrid concept albums.

I’ve already posted at length about the new Gorillaz album, Plastic Beach, the latest release from the cartoon band/musical project, so what about the other mainstream hybrid concept album – Coheed & Cambria‘s new album, the final chapter in their ongoing musical/graphic novel saga, titled Year of the Black Rainbow?

Well, we are getting our first glimpses and information on the album this week, with a teaser video (posted above), plus the official release date and track list.

Per the press release issued on their website, the tracklisting is as follows:

1. One
2. The Broken
3. Guns of Summer
4. Here We Are Juggernaut
5. Far
6. The Shattered Symphony
7. World of Lines
8. Made Out of Nothing
9. Pearl of the Stars
10. In the Flame of Error
11. When Skeletons Live
12. The Black Rainbow

The album is due to hit on April 13, 2010, in both regular and deluxe flavors.  Regular is of course, the disc with music, but if you’re a Co&Ca super fan, the deluxe version is perfect for you, containing quote -

* 352-page Year of the Black Rainbow novel, penned by Claudio Sanchez and author Peter David
* “Making of” DVD featuring studio and interview footage
* Coheed and Cambria “Black Card.” Black Card Cardholders will be eligible for early entrance to selected shows, discounts on band merchandise and exclusive downloads and offers.

All and all, it sounds like a sweet package for longtime fans, but the question is – will it live up to the hype?  We’ll know in April (if not beforehand. Thanks, piracy!)
