I suppose it shouldn’t come as a surprise, as Iron Man goes through new suits of armor like I seem to go through iPods, but Tony Stark’s about to start rocking a new suit of armor, starting in the pages of April’s Invincible Iron Man #25.

Designed by writer Matt Fraction and Iron Man movie designer Ryan Meindering, the armor change is most likely part of Marvel’s plan to keep the character high profile in the Marvel U on the road to the theatrical release of Iron Man 2, but I must say, it is kinda striking.

My one thought however – while streamlining the look certainly reflects the changes in technology over the past few years, the bright yellow and red look doesn’t really reflect what you see in modern gadgets.

Sure, it’s the Iron Man trademark, but I don’t think you’d see it if such a character were designed today.  Unless Tony Stark’s a major hulkamaniac.

Honest to God, before this week, I had no idea who Rhett Reese & Paul Wernick were, but they seem to be making all of the right moves to insure that changes.

You’re probably wondering who they are too, so let me refresh you.

Reese & Wernick burst onto the scene this past fall with the super awesome genre hit (and BoR Best of ’09 winner) Zombieland.

Then, earlier this week, it was announced that they were going to be writing the much anticipated/dreaded (in equal amounts) film adaptation of the ever popular Deadpool character.

Now, today, comes word that they’ll be tag-teaming the script for the sequel to GI Joe: The Rise of Cobra, this past summer’s not so great adaptation of the classic toy line/80′s toon.

Personally, I didn’t think much of the Joe flick aside from a few key moments (the Cobra Commander reveal was awesome), but apparently I’m wrong, as it grossed over $300 Mil worldwide.

My big worry – Reese & Wernick are obviously talented dudes, but are they stretching themselves too thin?  Between a possible Zombieland 2 in 3D, the Deadpool flick and GI Joe 2, that’s a LOT of work, even for two people working together.  Maybe the schedules don’t overlap as tightly as I’d think.

Since the debut of the Damon Albarn/Jamie Hewlett project Gorillaz in 2001, I’ve been a devout fan.

I love the Hewlett artwork, I love the virtual band concept, I love the ongoing backstory for the fake bandmates, but most importantly, I love the music.

What’s hard to believe, though, is that there have only been two albums released over the 9 year existence of the band.  Not counting the two b-side collections of course.

In any case, both Demon Days and their self titled debuts are some of the best albums of the past decade, and now that the release of “their” third album titled Plastic Beach is impending in 2010, I’m starting to get excited.  And luckily, Gorillaz are placating this excitement.

First and foremost, we have the above image, the first from the Plastic Beach era of the band, with an older and seemingly war-ready version of Noodles.

Next, we have the supposed tracklisting for the album, which includes some eyebrow raising guest appearances.

1. Intro
2. Seagull Massacre
3. Broken (featuring Mos Def)
4. Stylo (featuring Bruce Willis)
5. Electric Shock (featuring De La Soul)
6. Satan’s Burlesque (featuring the Horrors)
7. Pirate Ship (featuring Mark E Smith and Einar Örn Benediktsson)
8. Sweep Stakes (featuring Mos Def)
9. Carousel (featuring De La Soul)
10. Sloped Tropics (featuring De La Soul)
11. Twilight (featuring Ozzy Osbourne)
12. Daydream Daemon (featuring Mos Def)
13. Plastic Beach (featuring Lou Reed)
14. Banana Bunch (featuring Snoop Dog)
15. Arming The Nation (featuring Barry Gibb and Bobby Womack)
16. Closing Time

Bruce Willis? Ozzy? Barry Fucking Gibb?

Sounds like Plastic Beach sure is going to be interesting to listen to, if nothing else, when it hit shelves this Spring.

As a regular reader of Blast-O-Rama, you’re probably aware that I love many things.

Three of them are The Daily Show, George Lucas and HD content.

But Tuesday night, when George Lucas was a guest on this, the inaugural week of The Daily Show airing in beautiful HD, I was pretty excited.

And honestly, the interview was even more fun than imagined, as Jon Stewart gives Lucas crap over the prequels, and gets more life out of George than I’ve seen in years.

See the video above? Go ahead. Click play. And if your comp can handle it, hit the HD switch and watch it right on Vimeo.

I’ll wait.

Pretty awesome, right?

Here’s the stunning part – it’s 100% CG.  What’s the over under on Mr. Alex Roman getting an amazing Hollywood deal by the end of the month?

If there’s any fairness in this world – he already has been picked up by the time of this writing.

And in case you’re wondering how he did it, don’t worry, he created a behind the scenes video, too.

Embarking out of the hype station at lightning speed, we have the first two official stills from Scott Pilgrim vs. The World.

While the first image, above, is the same one Edgar Wright took a photo of in the Universal Studios lobby (and I featured a photoshop cleaned up version of), the second image, below, is brand spanking new, and features a segment not even from the comic series!

Is that THE flaming sword? Is that Jason Schwartzman as the most evil of evil-exes, Gideon Graves? What’s with Ramona’s dark dress?

The one question I can answer for sure: Is it awesome? Hell yes.

Now – bring on the trailer, Edgar!

After the terrible initial on-screen version of the Merc with a Mouth seen in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, despite the pitch perfect casting of Ryan Reynolds, fans everywhere would be understood to be dreading the in-progress production of the Deadpool film.

Luckily, they just tapped some writers who may just be the fix the doctor ordered.

Announced just yesterday by Fox, the script for Deadpool will be handled by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick.  Names don’t ring a bell?  They’re the writing duo behind this past fall’s Zombieland.

Having flawlessly mixed humor and violence to a beautiful degree on Zombieland, I see little to no reason to believe that Reese & Wernick won’t be a great writing team for Deadpool.  However, you need only look at the Star Trek relaunch and Transformers 2 to realize that two scripts by the same writers can go off in wildly different directions.

Hopefully this doesn’t stall the newly green-lit sequel to Zombieland, or cause one (or both) films to be harmed writing wise.

With the first real week of 2010 coming at you, so begin the first major retail releases of the year.

It’s still sort of quiet post the holidays, but there are 3 major releases worth checking out, and I’m featuring them in this weeks…Awesome-O-Rama.

Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs
Hey wait! Come back! I know, I know.  You’re already thinking that I’ve lost it. Just a few instances of A-o-R later, and I’ve gone mad just linking things for the Amazon referral cash. NOT TRUE. At least in this case. While I, and many others, figured Cloudy to be just another quick CGI cash in, the cast and writing team took the work to another level.  On the voice side, you have Bill Hader as lead, plus hilarious supporting turns from Andy Sandberg, Neil Patrick Harris, Mr. T and Bruce Campbell.  On the writing side, you have Phil Lord and Christopher Miller. Names aren’t ringing a bell? Well, these days they’re producers on How I Met Your Mother, but more importantly – they created CLONE HIGH. THE GREATEST ONE SEASON CARTOON EVER.  I admittingly checked Cloudy out as an illegal download earlier tonight, and now I’m convinced – I’m gonna need the blu.

Chuck: The Complete Second Season
Way back in the year of our lord Two Thousand and Seven, a show called Chuck premiered on NBC in the then super-crucial-to-me “pre-Heroes” slot.  A show about a nerd who has government secrets downloaded to his brain, produced by the guy behind The OC and his buddy who directed Sugar Ray videos and failed his way up into ruining the Terminator franchise, I should’ve hated it. But holy crap, did I enjoy every minute of the first season. And then, Season 2 premiered in the Fall of ’08, and every awkward moment of the show clicked instead into moments of pure awesome.  It rests in a very small pantheon of TV shows that I must watch live, NEVER on DVR. Only this and Mad Men have the “honor”.  Trust me on this – if you never saw Chuck before, pick up this season. It’s written for new viewers. Then check out Season 1. But most importantly, jump on Season 3. I really don’t want another Arrested Development scenario here.

Bayonetta
One of my gaming guilty pleasures has long been the Devil May Cry series.  Having started as a dumbed down, flashier version of the Resident Evil games, and grown into an even flashier, crazy ass shooter series, I love every game, even though they’re basically the same.  Unfortunately for Capcom, a lot of the staff behind the series left them, and moved onto Sega.  And their first title is this, Bayonetta.  While you can look at it and go “Ooh, Devil May Cry with ladies and boobs”, the gameplay has been pushed forward, taking an insane run and gun shooter, and if you can believe it, making it crazier.  The weapons are stranger, the action is wilder, and if the reviews are true, it’s the first great game of 2010.  Click the name for 360, click here for a PS3 version.

That’s all for this week – next week looks even bigger, containing one of my favorite films of 2010, and what might just win the Oscar this year.  See you then!
