If you’re not a hardcore geek, the above video and headline is really meaningless to you.  If you are, your head just exploded.  Same if you’re Sony, Microsoft or Nintendo.

Let me break it down to you…

Gears of War? BioShock? Batman: Arkham Asylum?

What do they have in common?  If you said “they’re all amazing games”, you’re half right.

They all run on an engine called “Unreal Engine 3″, a graphical engine made to make programming easier for developers, while at the same time, producing graphically stunning games.

And it can run on the most popular smartphone currently available.

Now, this doesn’t mean you’ll be seeing ports of all of these games to the iPhone, the available memory doesn’t allow it (yet). What it does mean, though, is games of a similar quality will soon be available for your freaking telephone.

Modern technology folks, it blows my mind.

Apparently we’ll be seeing the first instances of this tech on the iPhone in early 2010.  Sure, the gameplay will have to match the graphics…but it’s freaking on.

Put together by animator Rodrigo Blass, the above animated short Alma will stick with you this holiday season.

Not only is it…y’know…good, but it’s a tale of christmas toys coming to life and attempting to STEAL A CHILD’S SOUL!

So, if you’re dealing with some particularly bratty kids at the family Christmas gathering this year, load up this video, click play, and get ready to mentally scar some youth. It’s worth it.

A brand spankin’ new trailer for Kick-Ass has hit the web, and unlike most trailers, this doesn’t really focus on the story.

This focuses instead on one character.  The character who, if you’ve been following my coverage on Kick-Ass so far, we’re all expecting to be the breakout hit – Hit Girl.

The trailer is all about her, and due to language and violence, is quite not safe for work, so wait to watch this at home.  Your mind is gonna be blown.

Spoken of in hushed tones and eventually loud gags, Duke Nukem Forever is possibly the most well known video game to never officially exist.

Since the announcement of it’s arrival in the mid 90s, to the final killing of the project by 3D Realms last year, Duke Nukem Forever is a shining example of what not to do while building a video game, and now, the beloved tech mag Wired has written the definitive piece on where and how everything went wrong.

It’s a tale of never accepting anything less than perfection…and how chasing that goal never leads to completing anything at all.  A very interesting read, I highly recommend you check it out.

Is there any doubt that Gallery 1988 is the coolest art gallery in the world?

After hosting art shows in honor of Stan Lee, various movies, the Beastie Boys, and with a forthcoming He-Man show on the way, they’ve earned their nerd cred.

So it stands to reason that when the creators of Lost wanted to put together an art show in honor of their final season, Gallery 1988 would be the place.

The show itself runs through Christmas Eve (sorry, I was late again!), but, the stunning pieces have all been collected on a blog linked below.

My personal favorite piece appears above, but there are dozens of other artsy interpretations of Jack, Kate, Sawyer, Locke and the gang. Click through to kill an afternoon!

Holy shit.  Are the license holders for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles dead set on making pure crap?

I’m guessing considering the Nickelodeon deal is just a few months old that the big N had little to do with these, but oh fuck, the Shredder Hoodie has been topped.

First, we have a discovery by my good friend and yours, Ross Nover

The Krang Hoodie.

And…that’s pretty awful. But just as quickly as this has been found, just as quickly as the bar has been lowered, I’ve discovered the worst of the worst…

Ninja Turtle Snuggies

Brought to us by the fine folks at Hot Topic, I’m not sure what’s worse – the ugly as sin snuggies, or the emo dude models trying to look tough.

Either way, can we please stop slapping my childhood icons on such crap? Ugggggh.
