Archive for December 20th, 2009

You know, when it comes down to it, 2009 has been a great year.

Stunning movies, awesome music, jaw droppingly great things in the world of nerd. And I’ve been very lucky to cover it here at Blast-O-Rama.

The above video from YouTube user ‘Zack1Young’ really underlines it, with clips from all the best movies of this year, to the tune of one of my favorite bands, the Arcade Fire.

So with this video, and with this post, I thought I’d take this time to announce what’s coming on the site.

On December 31st, you’ll be getting my top 10 movies of the year, my top 10 albums of the year, and my music mix for the year 2009. Get ready for good times.

Completing the 4 part series of Kick-Ass character posters, here’s the poster for who might be the breakout character from the flick – Hit Girl!

Played by Chloe Moretz (500 Days of Summer), Hit Girl is an adorable young lady trained by her dad, known as Big Daddy (played by Nicolas Cage) to fight crime.

And apparently, she does it quite well.

So, let’s make with the movie already!

Kick-Ass hits theaters April 16, 2010.

Last weekend, the teaser trailer to the sequel for Batman: Arkham Asylum made it’s worldwide debut at Spike TV’s Video Game Awards.

It seemed a simple teaser, but as the above video from GameTrailers.com shows, there may be some very interesting hints toward what the Dark Knight’s next adventure will hold.

Can you say…Penguin?

It seems over the weekend that Toy Story 3 was the talk of the town.

As we’re getting closer and closer to the June release of this much anticipated Pixar sequel, more and more details are being revealed.

The first bit of news came with the above high-resolution still from the film, featuring Jesse, Woody and Buzz.  One of the great things about the high-rez nature of the image (which you can see by clicking it) is you can pick up on the detail employed by the artists, including scratches on Buzz’s dome, paint splotches on Jesse, and apparently, Woody has retained his nicer paint job from Toy Story 2.

The next bit of news came in the form of a press release, as Pixar announced that Toy Story 3 will be their first ever IMAX release. Here’s what they had to say:

Commenting on the announcement Bob Chapek, president, Distribution, The Walt Disney Studios, said, “We’re very excited to once again unite Disney Digital 3D with The IMAX Experience, and to do it for the long-awaited release of Toy Story 3 is a real treat. A film like this is designed to take audiences on an exciting thrill-ride adventure, making it a perfect match for both 3D and IMAX.”

“We have always envisioned the Toy Story franchise as an ideal fit for The IMAX Experience and we’re very happy to finally turn that vision into a reality,” said IMAX CEO Richard L. Gelfond. “This film also fits nicely into our 2010 lineup, ensuring that families will be able to start the summer holidays with a fun Disney release in IMAX.”

“Pixar’s beloved films have changed the way people go to the movies. IMAX is proud to be working with both Pixar and Disney, who like IMAX, strive to transport moviegoers to incredible places that people only dream about visiting,” added Greg Foster, Chairman and President of IMAX Filmed Entertainment. “In IMAX 3D and through the power of Randy Newman’s incomparable music, audiences will be able to see and hear Woody, Buzz, and the rest of the larger than life characters of Toy Story in a whole new way.”

Last, but far from least, was the reveal of a clip from the film, shown during an airing of The Incredibles on ABC Family. This showcases Andy packing up the toys before he leaves for college.

Toy Story 3 hits theaters in IMAX and 3D on June 18, 2010.
