Arguably one of the most important and prolific writers in the past 2 decades of comics, Grant Morrison has been turning all the conventions of the comic world on their head since he first broke in.
With legendary runs on Batman, All-Star Superman, JLA, New X-Men and Animal Man, plus his original titles like The Invisibles, it’s safe to say he’s part of why the comic world has matured into what it is today.
So now, of course, we’re going to get a look into the methods of his madness. With Grant Morrison: Talking With Gods, the team at Respect Films has crafted a documentary about this talented writer, and if the trailer is any indication, I cannot wait to see it.
Grant Morrison: Talking With Gods is due to premiere at San Diego Comic Con 2010.
Way way back in the 1970′s, MEGO had basically every toy license possible. DC Comics. Marvel Comics. Star Trek. Shit, there were even C.H.I.P.s figures!
Then Star Wars happened, everyone realized how much money could be made in action figures, and the licenses got all sorts of split.
In a perfect world, one company would still have this type of universal license, and it would be LEGO. Don’t agree? I think these two awesome illustrations from Ulises Farinas should speak otherwise. The above piece, titled “Lego My Marvel”, shows a Marvel Universe in LEGO style. The piece below, titled “RISE!” is a mini-figure styled version of Blackest Night, the super rad DC v. Zombies crossover currently all over the comics.
Either way, I’ve been left wanting these mini figures. Sure, you can say that MegaBlocks has the Marvel license, and Art Asylum did MiniMates for both DC and Marvel..but god damnit, they ain’t LEGO!
I’m a grown adult, and if these sets were release for real, I’d buy them in a heartbeat. Kids need this.
Props to the illustration style as well. Mr. Farinas reminds me of Geoff Darrow’s hyper-detailed work, and considering he’s doing “simple” mini figures in this art, that’s a mighty hard task. Props to you, and for making my childhood dream come alive.
I’m not sure if it was Disney’s idea to try to steal the thunder of another big CGI filled 3D sci-fi film by timing the release of these images as they have, but never the less, we have our first look at real media from Tron Legacy, the 2010 sequel to the 1982 seminal computer animation classic.
The details on the flick so far have been super sketchy, but now we have the first poster (above, click for hi-rez), the first still (below, which can be clicked for bigger), and the first synopsis:
TRON: LEGACY is a 3D high-tech adventure set in a digital world that’s unlike anything ever captured on the big screen. Sam Flynn (GARRETT HEDLUND), the tech-savvy 27-year-old son of Kevin Flynn (JEFF BRIDGES), looks into his father’s disappearance and finds himself pulled into the digital world of Tron where his father has been living for 25 years. Along with Kevin’s loyal confidant Quorra (OLIVIA WILDE), father and son embark on a life-and-death journey of escape across a visually-stunning cyber universe that has become far more advanced and exceedingly dangerous.
All and all, it’s enough to send nerds like me into a frothing rage of excitement!
Tron Legacy is set to hit theaters in December 2010.
Later tonight, the first reels of Avatar get shown for the critical press.
In one week and some hours, fans everywhere get to see it in IMAX 3D.
It’s the culmination of 15 years and $300 million of blood, sweat and tears. But even with that, the hype train must move forward as it comes into station.
And that brings us to this, the final poster for Avatar.
Featuring more a semblance of the movie’s world Pandora, along with the face of lead Sam Worthington…honestly, this should’ve been the image pushed, instead of the half face of a Na’vi.
Either way, we’ll see what happens. Avatar hits theaters on December 18th.
I know George Lucas has never been one to shy away from merchandising the crap out of his golden calf, but the sheer breadth of Star Wars merchandise lately is a bit confusing.
We just past the 30th Anniversary…the 35th isn’t for another 2.5 years…and while the Clone Wars series is doing well, I don’t know if it’s doing so well that the popularity of the film series has surged but here we are. Following in the footsteps of Mark Echo, we now have an Adidas line of Star Wars clothing.
I’ve only chosen to highlight one piece from the collection above, a kickin’ pair of Luke Skywalker kicks, but the full lineup is far more full featured, including shirts, hats and more. You can view the other pieces at the link below, but to give you a taste of what you’re going to see, here’s the official description from Adidas themselves.
Characters Pack
This pack takes the most iconic moments and characters from the Star Wars saga and brings them to life across five sneakers, two short sleeve T-shirts and the Superstar Track Top.
Vehicles Pack
For this pack, we have taken inspiration from the well known vehicles and crafts from the Star Wars saga and translated them to our five most iconic adidas Originals sneakers and two key adidas Originals apparel models. Across these models we have paid homage to the distinguished features of airborne crafts and land based vehicles from both sides of the Force and executed them to appeal to both adidas and Star Wars fans alike.
Direct Pack
Darth Vader and the Stormtroopers appear in this pack as well as in the Characters pack. Also, the Women’s Game Mid silhouette that appears here is inspired by Princess Leia, featuring gold detailing paired with a modern high-top silhouette with matching apparel.
The Adidas Originals Star Wars Collection should hit shelves in January.
