Just announced by Warner Brothers, shooting will begin shortly on a live action/CG hybrid version of the classic Hanna Barbera cartoon Yogi Bear.

I was going to say “Didn’t we learn enough from Garfield and Alvin and the Chipmunks?”, but apparently those movies made hundreds of millions of dollars, so I’ll simply say…you have yourselves to blame for this, world.

Doesn’t change the fact that I think this could be a terrible idea, and overall ruin my Christmas tradition of weeping like a man-child to Yogi’s First Christmas, which may be the most depressing children’s Christmas cartoon EVER.

Announced so far for the cast is Anna Faris, who will be one of the live action characters, Rachel, a nature documentarian (appropriate, as she’s starting to look like a human cartoon herself), and starring as the voice talent of the CG created Yogi Bear and Boo Boo will be Dan Aykroyd and Justin freakin’ Timberlake respectively. No word on who’s gonna play Park Ranger Smith.

So, basically, I guess this means we’re 2 people away from having the entire Ghostbusters cast voice classic cartoon characters. Any chance we can get Ernie Hudson in as Hong Kong Fooey?

Yogi Bear is aiming for a December 17, 2010 release.

Fresh on the heels of some very well received test screenings, the gang at Lionsgate Pictures have released some awesome new character posters for the upcoming comic adaptation Kick-Ass.

Showing the characters from behind, and, in a smart move, choosing to promote the character versus the actor (i.e. “Dave Lizewski IS  Kick-Ass), these make for a mighty poster.  One rendered even mightier, of course, when they’re all put together.

Kick-Ass kicks ass in theaters April 16th.
