On this site, I haven’t been too ashamed about sharing my biases, so here’s another.

I love Will Ferrell. Sure, he’s not had the best track record as of late, but I still think he’s one of the most solid comedic talents in Hollywood. Why? Because he gives his all to a character. No matter how ridiculous, you believe the character is real.

And it certainly broke my heart when in arguably his best role to date, that of Harold Crick in 2006′s Stranger Than Fiction, the world basically didn’t even notice the film existed.

Never the less, it seems Ferrell is ready to take risks again, starting with the forthcoming independent film Everything Must Go.

First, to get it out of the way, the main reason why this film has gotten noticed is the budget. $10 million, total. In an era when Will could earn that himself, it’s nice to see he’s taking a risk on a project not just in content, but also in his pocketbook.

But the plot is what has me.  Based on a Raymond Carver short story, Will Ferrell plays a man who gets kicked out of his house by his wife, who has decided to throw all his belongings on the lawn.  Ergo, Ferrell spends the next four days selling every one of his possessions off in a lawn sale.

What makes the flick sound interesting though, is Ferrell plays a total, bleak asshole of a character. A motivational speaker with an alcohol problem, he ends up assaulting a co-worker, is fired, and his wife decides to leave him – all in the same day.

Can Ferrell pull it off? We’ll find out when Everything Must Go hits theaters.

Ok, I’ll admit, the headline isn’t a huge revelation, as I’ve been in a comic (and written a few) in my time.

Either way, this past Friday, I appeared in the comic Hello With Cheese.

Created by my friends Darren Gendron and Bryan Prindiville, Friday’s comic wrapped up a week of Where The Wild Things Are related strips, by showcasing those of us across the web who are super excited for this weekend’s release of the Spike Jonze adaptation.

See that awesome toy above?

Yeah, it’s designed by Erfworld artist, Super Art Fight co-creator, and someone I’m honored to call my friend – Jami Noguchi.

Would you like to own said toy? That’s why I’m posting about this!

Jami posted this design to the growing in popularity custom toy retailer Patch Together. Following the vein of websites such as Threadless and Design By Humans, users submit unique toy designs, the members of the site vote on them, and the ones with the best cumulative scores get put into production!

So, if you will gang, show Jami some love. Vote up his Monster Cutie.

Thanks!

While this apparently isn’t the first UK poster for The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus, it certainly wins the award for the most stunning.

Absolutely surreal, with a feel that matches the animation style of it’s director, Terry Gilliam, it’s a poster I’d love for my wall, just for it’s visual appeal, let alone if the movie lives up to it’s near infinite level of hype.

Here’s hoping the US Poster is at least somewhere near as good.

Coming nice and early this morning is a look at the latest teaser poster from ABC for the final season of their flagship time-shifting sci-fi island drama LOST.

What’s really interesting is how this harkens back to the original series poster (shown below), and not only shows how much the cast as grown, but indicates how the series is fading to black, so to speak.

Of course, I imagine what the Lost diehards will be focusing on are the weird ruinic symbols which appear in the phrase “THE FINAL SEASON”, as they decipher what, if anything, the creators are trying to tell us.

Lost returns for it’s final season this January.

I think it’s safe to say that Mad Men has officially hit a level of cultural significance.

No longer toiling as the tiny cable program that could, with millions of viewers and Emmys under their belt, it’s time for the time tested approach of merchandising the crap out of it.

So, of course, the first item out of the gate (outside of the lovely DVD & Blu-Ray sets) is a damn fine suit from the folks at Brooks Brothers.

It’s an absolutely solid suit, which I think a certain award-nominated blogger would look great in, but the ticket price of $1000 is probably going to keep it out of my closet.

The suits are limited to an edition of 250, and will be available starting October 19th.

Yesterday, Captain Lou Albano passed away at the age of 76.

A legendary pro-wrestling manager, the man who was in part responsible for the “Rock & Wrestling Connection”, and best known by this generation as the live action version of Super Mario, he will be missed.

So I thought it’d be worth sharing a classic video of his antics as Mario.

In this clip, Cap’n Lou is supposed to be doing a short PSA about kids not doing drugs. Evidently, the world of Pro Wrestling hasn’t left him as he ends his PSA with possibly the most horrifying final line in anti-drug PSA history.

Enjoy!
