This sure is a bummer, especially for nerds like myself.

Hands down, one of my favorite writers in comics over the past few years has been Brian K. Vaughan.  Singlehandedly responsible for the stunning Y: The Last Man and the mind behind the great teen superhero book Runaways, he was one of the writers who was able to get me back into comics after the speculative 90s ruined my level of enjoyment.

So of course, a few seasons back, when he joined the writing staff of Lost, and seemingly was one of the staffers who got the show back on track during Season 3, few were as excited as me.

In turn, it’s with a heavy heart that I read today that Vaughan has left the writing staff of Lost, just months before the final season goes into production.

According to producer Damon Lindelof, he “has left for greener pastures.”  I presume he means the world of screenwriting, given that Marvel has optioned for a Runaways film, and director DJ Caruso (Eagle Eye) has expressed intent on doing a movie adaptation of Y, but considering how Vaughan has added such great moments of levity to Lost (Hurley writing Empire Strikes Back, anyone?), and was the writer behind one of the best episodes of the series in “The Constant”, I can’t help but feel that this is a huge blow to the show.

I guess we’ll see what happens when Lost returns for its final season in 2010.

Oh wow.

Ever since I heard this flick was premiering at Sundance late last year, I’ve been sitting on pins and needles waiting for the first footage to surface of Patton Oswalt’s debut in Big Fan.

And now that the trailer is here (conveniently embedded above), I think it’s going to blow away any of my preconceived notions of what it would be.

Sure, I had a feeling given that it’s the directorial debut of Robert Siegel, he who wrote The Wrestler, that it would be something special…but this looks like a downright stunning portrayal of fandom gone horribly wrong.

Don’t take my word for it, folks. Hit play above.

I don’t know what it is about specialized recaps of Star Wars, but they seem to make the internet go ’round.

I mean, we had the 3 year olds version…the version from the girl who had never seen it before…and now we have this…

Star Wars in 3 Minutes In A Notebook!

What really makes this one work is the adorable animation and childlike feel of it all.  But I think it’s safe to say, we all know how the story goes.  Even with that though? I have a bad feeling once George Lucas dies, we’ll see the remakes get green-lit. Thanks for being predictable Hollywood!

Take one part smart ass horror script from Juno scribe Diablo Cody, the super attractive Megan Fox, add some blood, some gore, some f bombs, and some skin…

and you have the sure-to-be-a Fall hit Jennifer’s Body!

Here’s what’s kinda weird…they cut together this red band trailer for it to be placed in front of Bruno this Friday, and 20th Century Fox wasn’t having it, and made an “all ages” trailer of their own.

However, the creative team said “here you go, internet!” and gave the red-band trailer to ShockTillYouDrop.com.

Aren’t you glad we live in a modern age where such things are possible?

Let’s see…flick’s called The Informant!

Stars a goofy lookin’ Matt Damon…check.

Directed by Steven Soderbergh, in his wacky caper Ocean’s mode…check.

Features a cast including Joel McHale, Paul F. Thompkins, Patton Oswalt and a (sadly left on the cutting room floor) Jimmy Pardo…triple check.

Yep, sold on this before I even hit play on the trailer.

And if you weren’t, you will once you watch it.

The awesomely exclaimed The Informant! will hit theaters this September.

Ok, so…maybe Reynolds has his heart in the right place when it comes to the movie adaptation of Deadpool.

It’s been pretty obvious since the release of X-Men Origins: Wolverine that Ryan Reynolds has been asking for a mea culpa from the nerd audience, especially now that the standalone Deadpool movie was green-lit.

But this quote, coming from Empire Online, is probably the best key so-far that he gets it.

“Break the fourth wall? Oh yeah, he’s got to. I want to see him break the Great Wall.”

As any fan of Deadpool knows, the character is always aware that he’s in a comic book (see the image above).  Now you tell me that Reynolds’ version of the Merc-With-A-Mouth is going to be aware that he’s in a film?

Sounds awesome. Maybe they can use the super rad abandoned design for his in-movie look, too…

Let’s be honest, like every year, San Diego Comic Con is going to be freaking huge.  It kind of goes without saying.  And as a self described “nerd culture” blogger, I’m equally excited about what may be revealed, and worried about how I’ll cover it all.

One of the cool things they’re announcing in advance, however, is the first screening of sequences from Matthew Vaughn’s adaptation of Mark Millar’s teen superhero comic Kick Ass.

And, because they’re so rad, in addition to announcing said screening of footage, they gave us nerds another new still, to go with the two prior images of the name-sake hero.

This time, we get a look at the 11-year old vigilante Hit Girl.

I’m not too sure what exactly she’s crying about, but something tells me that gun will solve it.

Remember last year when I got super excited over Robin Williams having a decent sounding (and really fucked up sounding) project for the first time in years?

Well, the red-band trailer for the Bobcat Golthwait film World’s Greatest Dad has finally hit the web, and by God, it’s just as fucked up as it sounded.

World’s Greatest Dad is set to shock theaters on August 21st, making for a nice double-feature with Inglorious Basterds.
