Bit of a followup to my post about the miserable experience that was all the shit related to Sunday night’s Radiohead show….

I sent Nissan Pavilion’s customer service e-mail a line about my experience, and my frustration, having spent so much on tickets, parking, gas, etc.

So I got a lovely e-mail back today from them.

Hi Marty

Thank you for contacting Nissan Pavilion regarding your experience on Sunday night. The torrential rain storm, multiple road closures and a late-arriving crowd led to delays for some music fans entering the parking lot at Nissan Pavilion. While we have no control over Mother Nature, we certainly are disappointed that some fans did not make it to the venue.

As a consolation, we would like to offer you complementary lawn tickets to Radiohead’s performance at the Susquehanna Bank Center in Camden, NJ on August 12th. We apologize for any inconvenience you experienced Sunday night and hope that this free ticket offer helps to make up for it.

Sure, they’re not pavilion seats, but hey, they’re free. And honestly, I didn’t even expect a response, just a “sure, we’ll get back to you” form letter. Classy move, LiveNation. You win this round.

Playing Grand Theft Auto 4 these past few weeks has been quite the experience.  Not only is the scope of the title completely unrivaled, but Rockstar really outdid themselves with the level of approximation of New York City in the games fake-location Liberty City.

Of course, I didn’t realize how well they did until I saw this great Flickr set of images, titled Sightseeing In Liberty City, which compares the fictional Liberty City to the real-life New York City.

Props to Flickr member Matthew Johnson for compiling this set, which you can view here.

I Heart Next Gen Gaming

As some of you reading this may know, I seriously made the leap into this generation of gaming, owning a PS3, 360 and Wii.

While my time lately has been eaten up by Mario Kart Wii and GTA4, I still have many a great game to look forward to.

These two trailers are just a taste of the innovative titles to come this year. And I can’t wait for either.

First, the amazing first-person free running game Mirror’s Edge

Secondly, the latest trailer for the blockbuster in the making, METAL GEAR SOLID 4 (why yes, that is Don LaFontaine!)

What say you, good readers? What games are you looking forward to?

It Rained All Night

I know, the title of the post is actually a Thom Yorke song, not a Radiohead song. But it’s very appropriate, as you’ll soon read.

Last night, I had the amazing pleasure of seeing Radiohead. Hot in the middle of their 2008 tour supporting the stupendous album In Rainbows, it was a fantastic show at Bristow, VA’s Nissan Pavilion. I mean, look at this set list!

How could that not be a good show?

A mix of Mother Nature and inept staffing.

Without going into too much detail (honestly, I’m too angered to get into it all now), there was a torrential downpour the entire evening…and the staffers at Nissan Pavilion did nothing to assist the matter, closing roads, bringing movement to a crawl, not being helpful to ticketholders, and even sending people away.

This was a sold out show. 25,000 people. Why are you sending away people who dropped an average of $50 to see the show?

Luckily, the internet has voiced my anger far better than I could, with this post at DCist, this followup at The Consumerist, and ranting and raving across message boards nationwide.

As for the actual show? I finally got in (1 hr.+ waiting for parking) just in time to see “Just”, and despite the rain, cold, and miserable setting, they were absolutely transcendent. It’s just a shame what could’ve been an amazing show was marred by people who had nothing to do with what was on stage.

I will never go to Nissan Pavilion again. And you better believe they’ll be hearing from me.

And granted, I can only give you 8 out of 10 tracks…so far….

BUT WHO WANTS THE RED ALBUM!?!?

Enjoy.

More images of the cast of GI Joe hit the web today…

And I have to say, it’s not looking good.

IESB got a look at Christopher Eccleston (who you may remember as the 9th Doctor in Doctor Who, and Claude the Invisible Man from Heroes), as Destro. Note, as he hasn’t been disfigured yet, he doesn’t wear a silver mask. In turn…he looks like every eastern european terrorist ever.

LatinoReview.com got this look at the masked version of Storm Shadow…looks better, but isn’t quite there yet.

Finally, ComingSoon features this image of Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje as Heavy Duty.

Uh…at least they got the gun right?

I seriously hope this looks better in action. As it is, my faith in the project is faltering.

EDIT, 7:04pm: Two More Images!

From Dark Horizons, we have Saïd Taghmaoui, playing Breaker, who I believe is an original character for the film…

And lastly, from IGN, we have another look at Sienna Miller as Baroness. WHO FINALLY HAS THE EYEGLASSES. NERDS/GLASS-FETISHISTS REJOICE!

EDIT, 8:12pm – More!

Collider gives us a look at General Hawk. Eh. He looks bored.

MTV gives us a look at Duke!

And CHUD gives us a look at Ripcord…because a Wayans Brother…means quality.

Mmm. Fried Gold.

For a few years now, I’ve been telling anyone who would listen, that if you loved Hot Fuzz and Shawn of the Dead, you REALLY owe it to yourself to watch Spaced.

Aired on the BBC in 1999 and 2001, running for 2 seven episode seasons, Spaced was the TV show that put Simon Pegg, Nick Frost and Edgar Wright on the map, and holds up as one of the finest bits of television programming I’ve had the pleasure of watching.  Unfortunately, due to the fact that legal issues held the show up from being released in the US, the only way people could see it was via region 2 DVD, or illegal downloads.

This changes now.

spaced-complete.jpg

Finally, Spaced hits DVD here in the US on July 22nd.  And don’t worry, it’s not some quick cash grab release. Oh no, there’s a SHIT TON of extras.  Check it out…

  • New exclusive commentary with director Edgar Wright, Simon Pegg, Jessica Hynes (nee Stevenson) and guests Quentin Tarantino, Kevin Smith, Bill Hader, Matt Stone, Patton Oswalt and Diablo Cody.
  • Exclusive Spaced On Stage reunion Q&A recorded at the National Film Theatre, London in October 2007.
  • “Skip to the End” – Exclusive feature length documentary
  • “Spaced Jam” by Osymyso
  • Outtakes
  • Trailers
  • Deleted scenes
  • Raw footage
  • Photo gallery
  • Homage-O-Meter – An onscreen feature that tracks each pop-culture reference
  • Newly updated cast and crew biographies

Now you have no excuse. July 22nd. Be there. Hell, I own the British DVD, and I’ll be there.

For the full press release, including a ton of testimonials from some of the more well known fans of the series, click here.

The never ending cash cow known as Star Wars is rolling on this August with the theatrical premiere of the forthcoming CG toon The Clone Wars.

Despite being phenominally done in standard animation a few years back, the soon-to-be released CG film and future series shows the much spoken of Clone Wars, which took place between Star Wars Episodes 2 and 3.

clonewarsposter.jpg

As the flick hits theaters on August 15, the hype train starts this week, with the first one-sheet hitting theaters this Friday (seen above), plus the official release of the first trailer, which airs on Cartoon Network, TNT, TBS, CNN, and Boomerang at 7:58pm in all U.S. time zones on Thursday…and is attached to Speed Racer this Friday.

Personally? While the CG is looking nice, with great shading work, I keep getting reminded of the old British Supermarionation shows like Captain Scarlett and Thunderbirds. Besides, didn’t Genndy Tardiofsky already do this…and really FREAKING well?

Oh well. I know they’re gonna sucker me out of my $10. Such a cheap whore am I.
